Anyway for the sensible people on here.

Russia aren't going to at the moment accept any "peace agreement" that is short off Ukraine being a puppet state. The people won't accept that and will keep fighting so what doe that achieve? Fuck all really.

The CCFC Neville Chamberlain Supporters Club are clueless
When are you signing up for active service Dave?

Let's hope Western leaders reject both whataboutery and "If we can't do everything we should do nothing" thinking.
Stay focused and work the problem but under no circumstances give in to tyranny.
Megalomaniacs always over reach. We play the long game with the objective of neutralising then removing Putin.
In the meantime do everything to aid Ukraine (short of military action but including airdrops of humanitarian aid) and strengthen its neighbours.

He is setting a precedent of being able to attack other countries while threatening nuclear war if people try and stop him.
And he's not going to stop anytime soon is he. He already thinks he is invincible.

He can send assassins over here to take people out and there is nothing we can do about it. He has been pretty untouchable has he.

He will make a mistake at some point (maybe already has), but it seems the long game is the only way to topple him unless there is something that happens within his inner circle.

At what cost is this all going to be though..😢

Yes, because it's better than many many many more people affected by a nuclear war

So there’s no point to maintaining a nuclear defence then? It serves no job as it’s not a deterrent? Or rather we should rebuild the empire because we’ve got nukes and therefore can do what we like?

He’s either going to use them or he’s not. You’re giving him free reign to invade anywhere he wants. What does somewhere being NATO matter he’d just nuke us then too?

If we’ve got a madman who will end the world that horse has already bolted, you’re just putting off the inevitable.

The best way to deal with a madman is to escalate, yeah?

You wait a bit longer than 7 days and allow the sanctions to start to bite before commencing WW3 and potentially condemning millions to their death
So exactly what is happening now whilst the situation is contained in Ukraine. Sadly Ukraine will be the world's Coventry during the Blitz - a sacrificial lamb for the "long - term" good

...and in the meantime, all the nations still importing Russian oil & gas should stop with immediate effect.

....Its frankly obscene that many western nations are supplying arms, aid & preaching about freedom & democracy whilst at the same time showering Putins Russia with cash at $112 per barrel (and rising).

The debates here now probably aren’t that far off what was held in the USA at the start of WW2

I’d imagine that plans are already in place on that, I guess it’s going to take time to do.

I'd imagine if Putin wanted to turn off the taps, he could pretty much immediately.

I'd suggest there is also a tap at the other end of the supply, but currently it would be just too inconvenient for western nations to turn it off!

If it fucks the German & French economy for a little while.....tough shit.

If it means the Italians can't heat there homes for a while....tough shit.

If it means UK petrol & diesel hits £3 per litre for a while....tough shit.

We're not the ones getting bombed in our beds.

Germany is reliant to a ridiculous extent as is Italy - they will do nothing about it.

I guess you have a lot of experience in that area. 😉

well not as much as Italy it seems. I’m sure they will be losing 40% of their energy

I’m amazed tbe eu as a collective force hasn’t agreed this action overnight after the invasion

I think around 45% of it currently - they’re talking about firing up currently unused coal plants - there are also talks going on with other North African countries as well.
I’ve always been amazed they’ve not invested more in solar energy - the country has only just started looking at green energy for homes, I think due to Draghi.

Germany would grind to a halt.
