As Foreign Secretary, Johnson ditches his security detail to go to wild parties in the Italian palace of his Russian oligarch mate.

The same mate who is closely aligned with Putin, says the Salisbury attacks aren't Russian in origin, whose father was a KGB agent, and who is considered a security risk by MI6.

Later as PM, Johnson gives his mate a peerage, again despite MI6 insisting he is a security risk.

Now, read that again, and replace the name Johnson with Corbyn, (or even Starmer) and tell me if you think the British press would accept them as a suitable Prime Minister.

I’d forgotten all about that - Morning after: Boris Johnson recovers from Lebedev’s exotic Italian party
The hypocrisy and double standards are breathtaking.

We know you were outraged by Mr Corbyn's alleged links with Russia and demanded he be removed from office as a national security risk. Presumably you're equally as outraged by Mr Johnson's Russian links and want him removed from office immediately?

Mr Lebvedev is not a political figure. He’s very popular in the London social scene and is more interested in dying his beard and fake tans - also it seems and oddly is held in very high esteem on this forum - hence the hypocrisy tag.
The Salisbury statement was curious (probably attention seeking) and from what I see not exactly what’s portrayed on here and the front pages from what I see are highly critical of the invasion

It’s also worth noting (again the hypocrisy reference) that mr Corbyn and his pro Russian sympathy at the time of the Salisbury poising was well received on here with some believing it was a MI6 killing on the instruction of the uk government - one poster believing the Russians leaving the country were actors and the airport scene staged like a scene from Capricorn One

So when someone you don't like suggests Russia weren't behind the poisonings they are a security risk.

When someone in bed with your beloved PM suggests Russia were not behind the poisonings that's just 'curious attention seeking'

Understood.

Hypocrisy indeed.

Think we need to be more worried about the not-zero agenda.

If anything this has shown we need better energy independence and we're perfectly situated to make the more of zero-carbon, renewable energy which would not only solve that issue pretty much forever but also put us at the forefront of what is surely going to be one of the growth industries of the next generation or two.

But, nah. Let's not do that and instead concentrate on keeping pulling finite supplies of stuff out of the ground to burn at immense cost (financially, ecologically, healthwise) and end up with the same problem and high fuel costs in the future because that best suits the investments of a handful of rich people and nations.

You must have to be a special kind of idiotic twat to think putting the short-term interests of a small group of people is the right thing to do. Surely a majority of them must be able to see the massive flaws with what they're suggesting?

Well he surely leans to the majority of people on here does he not?
I've no idea what the fuck you even mean by that.

And anyway the point you made was he isn't a political figure. Are you now accepting he is and trying to deflect by some of your classic 'whataboutery'?

Also whataboutery is such an absurd term - a lazy euphemism to evade debate

I mean abs I assume it’s the same guy who owns the independent isn’t it?

What’s his political party in the lords?

Yes, he owns the Independent. So what? As you well know you have to get a wide cross-section of sources as all of them will, at some point, have an element of bias.

As for political party, again irrelevant. Just because he's cross-bench doesn't mean he isn't a political figure or doesn't wield significant influence.

If I were looking to infiltrate, I would want to ingratiate myself with those currently in power to give me initial access and influence, but then leave as many avenues and doors open as possible to exert influence wherever possible. Why limit your potential influence to a single party that may at some point lose power?

Lebedev courted the likes of Johnson (who he probably knew could be easily manipulated with donations, PR etc.) to get himself a peerage and then became cross-party to give him scope to influence.

Not at all. I think we've seem some supposedly 'patriotic' news outlets be far more forgiving of Russia's invasion. The point was that you always need multiple sources to compare to see what is being said and highlight any potential bias.

Anyway, stop deflecting from the fact you said someone in the House of Lords isn't a political figure.

Clearly, and it would be odd to argue otherwise. Take the L and move on.

Where does he sit politically?

Who is Mr Levedev? Do you need a lie down?

What I would I think like to know is which acts of parliament passed through the lords for consideration has Mr Levedev attempt to influence?
