Gyökeres Bids (11 Viewers)

Palmer has averaged two goals a season in the championship for the last six years. It isn't beyond a turnaround obviously, but with O'Hare struggling with end product and now this guy coming in, I have little sensible reason to believe that our attacking midfield is going to be a reliable source of goals. Of course COH might come back this season with a mean right boot too, we don't know, but Gyokeres for me has to be kept as one of the highest priorities.
I’ve watched clips on Palmer on YouTube and looks the part to me and if he gets some sort thing going with O’Hare to could be very profitable.
I hope we get him.

He's scored on average two goals a season across six seasons in the championship... Yet you've seen some clips on YouTube and want to sign him? Based on that?

I'll admit that I really don't see what the club are seeing here, but what you are doing is even worse than that, or those gagging for a signing because there haven't been any so far. The posts on Kastaneer here should put it right into perspective.

I see what they’re seeing. It’s a gamble on Viveash getting the best out of him but the consensus from
Bristol fans at least seems to be “there’s a player there if you can get him playing”. My concern is over how much of the wage budget we’ve gambled and for how long.

Stats can be manipulated as you like, he has not played in a system that suits him or in his “main” position

We have to give this player a chance and trust the dynamic duo (robins &ADI)as don't think he's like bright last season.

Besiktas quoted €10m (£8.5m) according to a report in Turkey. Ex Barnsley and WBA manager Ismael is in charge there

They're also after Ighalo, the ex Man Ure striker..

Who the hell is Palmer and have we actually signed him? Everyone speaking like it's a done deal but don't think I've seen anything officially on it yet?

I've got the same concern to be honest, if it works out it is an awesome signing but there's plenty of room to have doubts when he's not really had any good seasons. For balance, i also thought Moore a 'risk' based on his lack of game time and didn't really see Gyokores as an exciting signing at the time....which is probably why i'll never work in football!

I haven't looked at Palmer's record recently but when i did i think alot of his appearances were from the bench, so it's not unrealistic to hope that he'd return much more goals and assists if played regularly and from the start.

Taking risks is a model we have to use to try and compete some will work some won't. To be fair some players move clubs in massive deals and flop so every move is a risk.

Yes the clubs mentioned are Fulham and Boro. The mid table PL clubs with more money to spend seem to be interested in other Championship strikers

Makes sense. If you're an established prem team you're probably looking at Brereton Diaz or Piroe ahead of Gyok.

Gyok needs to do it for another year in the championship for the mid-table prem teams to come knocking

It wouldn't really be all that surprising. The club's valuation of Gyokeres likely differs wildly from the majority of the fanbase's.

Them receiving bids of anything between £8-10m for Gyokeres would likely be considered as a fair offer given what he was brought for and as such would be more than likely accepted.

Also depends what the signals are his side about a new deal, the club may see now as the best time to sell. I think it’s 2 years he has left

Piroe at Swansea won’t enter negotiations about a new contract there

Exactly. At least they're in the drivers seat in this window.

Going into the new season with Gyokeres seemingly being uninterested about signing a new contract very much takes the ball out of the club's court with regards to future negotiations.

There's also the added uncertainty of him potentially suffering a serious injury or losing form which will no doubt will factor into their decision making once bids come in.

To be honest if I goes I hope it’s abroad! Would sting more to see him play for another club in this country and would also be hilarious considering Middlesbrough fans are absolutely adamant they are getting him

On another note would £8.5m be our second biggest incoming transfer fee behind Robbie Keane? Mind has gone blank

I guess that is the question we all want to know. How is the rest of the squad going to look?

Red flags are already flying a bit with me and Palmer. I totally accept this is a hill I am dying on at the moment, and I very much hope that I'm wrong. I just struggle to see how following six poor seasons in the championship, that the seventh will be good. If anyone can turn it round then I agree that is probably Viveash and Robins, but surely the odds are that it continues as it has been for so long. How many other players turn it around after such? We have to take risks, I accept that, but if after all these years in the championship, the positives are pretty much squared at 'he looks good on youtube' which makes it feel like my concerns are validated even more.

Yep, just ahead of Bellamy, Hughes and Hartson:
