Ben Houchen , mayor of Tees Valley, just interviewed on channel.4 about Boris.
He is the nephew of Keith Houchen. I googled it !

It makes zero sense to me how Boris is still at the helm. Everyone has concluded that he is a devious, untrustworthy liar.

He should be nowhere near 10 Downing Street. They should have gone with Raab or a caretaker PM like May.

Everyone has said Johnson has no integrity, yet here we still are, with him as PM. 🤷

Those who have stood by and lied countless times on his behalf don’t deserve to lead either. Probably Jeremy Hunt should be the caretaker as someone who has spent most of this Parliament outside of the clown’s circle

Would not be at all surprised for a lot of them to switch back to supporting him again over the coming months, particularly if the polls improve for them even slightly.

'he's learned his lessons/he's committed to change' etc etc

He can't stand for leader if he does that

This is not over.

I'm not a gambler, so can somebody find the odds of Alexander being PM on 1/1/23?

I might even have a flutter myself.

The Mail really is weird.

Fuck, that is really weird. Even by Daily Heil standards.

It's basically a cult.

Hitchens is a bit of a strange one. He has the odd interesting thing to say about freedoms and liberty but I’m not even sure his views would even sit well with many Mail readers.

Hes always given me the impression that if he didn’t work as a journalist he’d be one of those nutters roaming the high street preaching his views at poor fuckers in town just trying to do their shopping

The Mail really is weird.

Maybe the editor still thinks Boris wheels enough power to get him a knighthood. Allegedly there’s been a power struggle between the owner and the editor for a while now on reporting on Boris and his government. The editor is part of the Boris cult and is allegedly expecting a knighthood for his loyalty whereas the owner wanted a more critical approach and doesn’t care about knighthoods because he already has one. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s all change at The Mail with Boris going, seem to remember it was all change there when Boris arrived, probably depends on who the next PM is I guess.

The interesting question is what the Murdoch press will do next. Let’s face it, they have no further need for Boris and at the end of the day he’s Boris so no doubt they’re sitting on a pile of stories and they no longer need him as a useful idiot so I wouldn’t be surprised if all sorts start coming out now or at least stuff we already knew sensationalised into headline news after previously being brushed aside as a nothing to see here.

You say that but over recent months they’ve been pretty anti Johnson in patches…for the Mail anyway.

The problem they appear to have is that they don’t have a clear horse to back. They’re also a bit of a click bait paper, hence the front page, which is an opinion/columnist piece. Same as the guardian, never have anything positive to say and just want people to wallow in misery so they can sell more papers/advertising

You're not seriously comparing the Guardian to the Mail?!?

May as well compare the Times to them, then!

As in never having anything positive to say as a paper, yeah.

The Times editorial is right leaning but the opinion and columnists usually offer a pretty balanced view taken as a whole

I discount the Telegraph and Express as just pure delusional

It's not remotely clickbait when compared to the Mail; compare the styling of headlines to the Mail and tell me they're remotely the same, and I'd call you a madman. They also give credit to the vaccine rollout, but do you seriously expect a left leaning paper to be positive about the mess that is Boris Johnson?!? They're positive about Southern Fin Whales and things that deserve positivity!

If you're going to compare the Mail to anything compare it to the Express, it occupies that aspiration to serious journalism, but is in actuality in the gutter with the Sun and the Mirror.

The clickbait comparison was maybe a little over the top. It was meant as in for their readership

Bizarre cult given the article in question Is written by someone who has been suggesting for years no one should vote Conservative so the party is closed down

Yeah because he thinks the modern Tory party are far left Marxists. Bloke is a fruit loop.

No but good try in fact the only politician I can recall him praising for years is Jeremy Corbyn but hey ho

Couldn't agree less. The Guardian has a liberal bias, but its articles are generally well researched and factual. Its opinion pieces are flagged clearly as such.

Unlike almost every other paper mentioned, it isn't beholden to rich owners.

If you think the output is miserable, maybe that reflects the actual state of many things in the country and the world.

If you prefer mindless, uncritical, paid-for, right-wing boosterism, then any of the tabloids other than the Mirror should work for you.

The unvarnished reality of British politics and our future direction as a society (or maybe even planet!), especially at the moment, isn't particularly cheerful. It's a bit unfair to blame the few papers that do try to report it honestly.
