Do you want to discuss boring politics? (216 Viewers)

She said she was working minimum wage and getting taxed when it was neither.

Why do you delve into the specifics when it’s someone from a union but not her?

Because he was presenting info/data in such a way I questioned it (rightly) and it’s relatively easy to Google the report he referred to.

Whilst I wiki what some politicians say (looked into Sunaks background, eduction etc trying to find out if he obtained scholarship at Winchester) I can’t fact check everything that each of the contenders are saying. It does say on wiki that she worked in MacDonalds and other jobs but I’m not in a position to hire a private investigator to find out whether she worked enough hours to pay tax on her time there/elsewhere

I stand by my comment that shouting ‘liar’ at someone when you don’t know that they’re lying is OTT. Her main point was that she knows what it’s like working on a low salary. By all accounts that’s true, if someone proves otherwise fair play, she’d have gone down in my estimations

I hope all his calls are like this. Cuts him off when the guy calls out his lie

I think that’s as much let’s try to discredit a candidate we’d worry about if elected. She’s worked at Maccys to support herself who gives a fuck if she did enough hours to pay tax or not. Think Nick needs to get a life*

If he proved she didn’t work in Maccys fair enough call her out, but it sounds like she worked to support herself through Uni and I’m sure at some stage in her life would’ve paid taxes on a low salary, whether at Maccys or not

*says the man who scanned through Unites report on a Sunday afternoon in order to prove a point 😂

Two points really mate, the first is that if you do the sums, she's almost certainly lying about seeing her low-pay, part-time job at McDonalds being impacted by tax. She simply wouldn't have earned enough.

Given she's the daughter of a GP and a professor who went on to do a masters degree and work in IT, in fact it's extremely unlikely that she's ever had a low paid full-time job in her life.

That speaks to the honesty of the candidate, and I don't know about you but I'm heartily sick of obvious lies going unchallenged.

Second point, do you think she's worried about low taxation because she wants to lift poor people out of poverty? If so maybe she's in the wrong party because under the last 12 years of Tory control, poverty, and in particular child poverty has risen. (Most governments would consider that a badge of disgrace, a complete failure.)

So, seriously, do you think the Tory obsession with low taxation is genuinely about benefitting the poor, because that's the line she's trying to sell with this "I feel your pain", bullshit.

Now we get party infighting in stereo. Lovely stuff.

That edited highlight doesn't say anything we didn't know mind you. Anything illuminating in the full thing... or do I have to wait for Philisoraptor to pull out the Jayne Innes quotes and graphs?

Haven’t read it yet, both sides claiming victory on Twitter though so standard stuff.

We're going to end up with the Thatcher tribute act as PM aren't we

We're talking about a voting system which everyone who votes in it knows how to use to their best advantage.

Can see some tactical switching of sides to stop Truss getting into the last two.

Shows an easier run-in verses Mordaunt than Truss.

That’s if the polls correct.

All members are that’s why they shouldn’t be allowed a say
It won't reflect well on the parliamentary party if they give the membership a choice of Truss at all - the systems set up to stop that!

It doesn’t hence Ed Milliband and Jeremy Corbyn - did IDS win a members vote I can’t be bothered to check

TBF the members voted for the other Milliband, bringing in full membership voting was to try and stop the unions putting a mentalist in.

The Labour system is different so irrelevant. The Tory system is set up to stop their Corbyn equivalent.

It isn’t though as the only reason Corbyn was elected is a load of members joined

Members are fruit loops they have zero concept of the country at large and the electorate why would you allow a tiny bunch of extremists to elect anybody it normally ends in tears

He was put to the membership on a vast minority of MPs. It'd be like offering Tugenhadt to the membership, and even Braverman may have had a fighting chance of being on that ballot

Truss isn’t a Thatcherite I don’t actually know what she is and more worryingly she doesn’t either
That's why she's there though isn't it - easily manipulated, and happy to deal with the devil for a shot at power that she should never be close to

He was out there as certain MPs thought they’d be leftie and inclusive by letting him in. Any idiot would see it was an open goal for the Tory party

No I just think like IDS and Corbyn as a leader she just drifts in - by definition most MPs object to her. I think you are giving her far too much credit

That was only a couple who did it for that reason. There's a minority of nutters who'd vote for the radical candidate v whatever - hence why Braverman picked up any views at all.

The good thing with the Tory system is she was never going to end up on the member ballot. Truss potentially being there names that irrelevant mind!

Is it giving her credit to suggest she says alright then when the Victorian anachronism promises to get her some support?
