Football update - The Vice-Chairman of one of the L2 clubs i work with messaged me tonight to say that the EFL are meeting the government tomorrow but he's expecting all this weekends across EPL, EFL and FAWSL to be postponed.

Don’t agree with royalty at all, but if you’re going to have one you couldn’t ask for much better. Been a continuity and worldwide symbol of Britain all through the modern age pretty much from war time to the Information Age. The country will be a lot poorer without her.

Cant believe Liz Truss killed her to be honest.
I think for me too since moving away from the UK I obviously get very nostalgic about home at times and in a funny way feel prouder and prouder of being British.

The institution itself is archaic and antiquated but it’s a diplomatic position and has been for decades. Throughout the rollercoaster of events over the last 70 years and throughout my whole life she’s been a figure of stability and leadership, a “constant”.

The world is worse off without her.

There’s also something I can’t quite place to do with our current standing in the world versus where we used to be, and the monarchy was at least a nod to that and I think this is probably the beginning of the end of it

We need to figure out what we are because if it isn’t an imperial power and it isn’t the bridge between US and EU I’m not sure what it is.

Yay, common sense prevails. I just turned the TV on and BBC2 is showing Escape to the Country and C4, Countdown.

There is more than enough wall to wall coverage on BBC1 and ITV. It's all about balance. Having all 5 main terrestrial channels all showing the same thing for 24 hours non stop, is just a bit OTT.

Everyone can still mourn and grieve without that degree of saturation.

Don't give a hoot about the royals one way or the other, but some people are so filled with hate it's staggering really.

I can see vacancies arising amongst the opposition benches next week when some Twitter account content is exposed.

We’ve not been an imperial power for a long, long time though and whilst I agree that the world might miss us being that bridge, let’s be honest the yanks will do what they want to do regardless. If we can sort our shit out why can’t we just be a decent country that people like and respect and still listen to on the world stage. The Ukraine situation suggests that’s possible with the right leadership on certain issues

Im not sure Truss is going to deliver that but Charles can help, especially as he’s likely to have stuff to say on sustainability/environment (although hope he keeps it just to that/not overstep).

It’s for us a country to try to be that anyway. Of course the government or monarch can be a major influence but ultimately it’s things like 500k volunteers during the pandemic, the charity work and the looking out for others and doing the right thing which sets the tone. We hopefully still have that in abundance whoever’s in charge of whatever institution

Yeah, I do hope Charles, given his known interest in environmental issues, can use his influence to sort out stopping all the sewage that's currently going into our waterways.

Of course he'll be up against the profiteers of the tory party and the water companies so I won't hold by breath.
