What's Putins next move here?

Seal all windows shut and refuse any offers of tea I’d expect.

His choices are basically:

- Full mobilisation of the Russian population and war time economy. Likely to result is civil uprising from the bits not real affected by the war yet. Also men aren’t much use if they’re untrained and unarmed. So even then no guarantees of a big success.

- Draw back to more defensible lines, likely just Donetsk, Luhansk, and the 2014 gains. Even then Ukraines new long range capabilities would put Crimea at serious risk if they take back the South coast.

- Ask for a peace treaty, likely in conjunction with the above. Though there’s every chance Ukraine smell blood now and the US isn’t going to pass up an opportunity to make the Russian Army look weak as fuck. Especially as China seems to be pulling a “I’m not with him” moment.

- Try and threaten gas and nukes again, but the main player here the US has little to worry about there and previous threats have done little.

Ultimately he’s massively overstepped and believed his own propaganda. I can’t see any way this ends well for him

One breakthrough in particular looks close to taking a key town that would cut rail supplies to a huge chunk of territory (Russians move everything by rail).

Looks like they have very nearly done this now. Izyum could soon be cut off from supplies.

Russia spent many weeks taking Izyum and have a big concentration of forces there.

Ive seen reports of 10k Russians trapped there if they get cut off.

I hope I’m wrong but I still haven’t ruled out Putin using tactical nuclear weapons if he’s desperate

Without patting ourselves on our backs, especially when in comparison with Ukraine, who are fighting/paying with their lives, but as has been commented already, Putins recent actions on gas haven’t (yet) moved the dial as he would’ve hoped.

It’s been met with a strong response from the ourselves and the EU ie no sign of backtracking on our support of Ukraine to help our own positions. This shouldn’t be downplayed as it feels like he’s running out of hands to play and any sign of weakness would’ve given him a massive lift and damaged Ukraine morale

*some countries might be wavering but the institution remains strong at the moment.

ps keep up the posts on this thread all, it’s one of my best sources of info on the war

This is completely ignorant but what about the entry of a third party.
Namely Belarus?
I doubt that Belarus will want to increase their involvement, given the kicking that the Russians have had in the last weeks.

They wouldn’t make a difference Ukrainian armed forces are now over 900,000, that and the supply of western arms and hopefully soon more himars and longer range missiles no one can help Russia not china not North Korea and definitely not Belarus.

I think a lot of countries will be questioning whether Putin has the authority and whether the nukes will have even been kept in working order at this rate.

i use this thread on another forum to follow. Health warning: it’s the most left wing Yankee SJW forums I’ve ever come across, do NOT venture over to their Queen Dead thread 😬 I forget what I got banned for, and the commentary from posters tends to be optimistic, but lots of updates to Twitter threads and articles to read and the like which keep me informed.

If they have reached Lyman, and take it, then it's curtains for the Russians in Izyum...

And izyum if they push down the river they will encircle all of izyum, I think the Russians are just in pure panic don’t know what to do no command and flopping, I heard 5000 troops in one city/town/village were captured.

Russian front utterly collapsing.

Izyum has either fallen or is about to, and Lyman.

Looks like Lysychansk has or will fall soon too. Took Russia weeks to capture that town at great cost, Ukraine have seemingly taken it in hours.

Absolute rout out there these last few days.

Keeping fingers crossed they can keep it up

Some crazy rumours out there. Donetsk Airport, just outside Severodonetsk, accusations that a Ukrainian party raised a village in Russia just across the border and stole a load of equipment. Rumours of unrest in Russia among the elites and Putin telling oligarchs to raise their own private military. Russian military bloggers losing their minds.

Will be interesting to see where everything lies once the dust settles.

Now they can set up defence lines for the next few weeks along the border and then push back on Kherson and the southern front, crazy they have 20 himars and they have turned this war around imagine if they had a hundred or more.

Russian sources rumouring a build up of forces near Volnovakha which controls the main highway to Mariupol. Some analysts have said only about half the Ukraine force is accounted for in current actions and a third front might open up.

If they do anything close to what the did in the east and lunch through to the coast then Russia are fucked. They’d have to move things to Kherson and the West front through Crimea.

Hugely unlikely, but so was routing Kharkiv Oblast last week 🤷🏻‍♂️

And the US Lend/Lease program kicks in next month, plus there’s tens of thousands of UKR troops being trained here that will come online.

Temper expectations but signs are very very positive.

Can someone give me a TLDR on what’s going on rn?

Tl;dr: Russian army is made of paper and cowards and lead by idiots.

So a while back Ukraine sources were loudly talking about a counter offensive coming soon, and that Kherson was super important. Russia moves all its good men over the other side of the river to Kherson . And sure enough a large force starts moving on Kershon and gets bogged down. Queue much lolling from Russian troll farms about failed counter.

Out the blue a small armoured Ukrainian force punches through the Russian lines in Kharkiv in the North East, people speculate it’s a bit of opportunism due to forces being occupied on the West front. But it doesn’t stop, it meets no resistance at all and doesn’t really until it hits the strategically important town of Kyupyansk, Russians are running and abandoning posts and equipment, Ukraine have gained about two battalions of equipment and captured or killed thousands of Russians in a week. Taking back 2000 square Km of territory, wiping out all Russian gains since April.

Russian trolls are half silent and half freaking out, no one knows how deep the rot runs and where Russia will be able to regroup or even if they will. Army’s from Donetsk and Luhansk Republics are refusing to fight outside their areas, Ukraine have battered Russian command and control so no one knows what’s going on.

Meanwhile Putin opens worlds biggest Ferris wheel in Russia, which immediately breaks down.

The trolls seem to be going for the stop funding Ukraine line pointing to domestic failures in western countries while Ukraine is now a gazillionair. Very flimsy desperate arguments, seems based on the civil rights issues while the US spanked millions in Vietnam supporting a despot who the majority of people in his own backyard didn’t want him.
