Nope.
Spent a long time creating a similar political and economic climate similar to Putin's. Concentration of huge amounts of capital and key market control concentrated in the hands of a few key allies. Restrictions on independent media and judiciary. Hungarian banks owned by Orban cronies were used to funnel much of the Russian money to Le Pen and others.
Genuinely dislikes the perceived liberal attitudes of EU and perceived Brussels interference in domestic issues. Presevration of national identity etc - the list goes on.
Despite sanctions still a Russian bank operating here as it has full diplomatic immunity - supposedly Orban hides his vast money as well as a front for Russian spy agenices etc.
Still committed to Russia funding and upgrading the main nuclear reactor based here in Paks.
But that funding isn't going to be on it's way anymore and he now just gets ignored in EU decision making. He wanted a strong russia and that isn't happening.

In the end he's weakened his own country and will get nothing out of it in the end.

He can style it out but he's fucked it.

What did you expect? All oil and gas instantly shut off?

They can't just up production overnight.

Yeah..I get that.
My sarcasm on being "quick off the mark" was in reference to the EU finally (almost) getting around to a price cap sanction.....just a little dig at the super agile levels of efficiency of EU policy decisions really.

The other was just to point out the share of russian gas has only now fallen to 7.5% (its actually 9% from what I read)
Well of course it has.....after the EU have spent all summer refilling their storage tanks with it & Putins cut the nord-stream to a trickle....

It's unbelievable how badly Putin has fucked over the entire country... for nothing.

I've been saying it since the start that he's going to ruin Russia for a generation or more. Got pelters from some though.

He still has allies on many issues apart from the Ukraine/Russia one.
Not that he wanted a strong Russia per se just that he "admires" the system where an elite rules and controls much of the wealth whilst not tolerating any opposition. It's a self-serving Nationalism much like Putin's.
He and his family and cronies have already got vast financial amounts out of it already.
Plus he is developing strong links with China giving the Chinese all sorts of favours which they can't get in other EU countries.
Plus domestically much of his "doctrine" is popular with the electorate. He has slaughtered most opposition in recent national and local elections.

he'll need eu money and the eu will make him jump for it and you can forget any more big international events

any victories are at best pyrrhic, he maybe richer but the country will be poorer

There is some pretty gruesome footage around. Modern Warfare with bells on. Ukraine’s advance/clearing of villages is fast and decisive.

I’ve been reading Tim Marshall’s book Prisoner’s of Geography (2015) Well researched and not at all surprising that Ukraine went the way it did, given it’s history.

Nato’s weakness driven by Europe’s in2014/ ambivalence and self-interest due to high dependence on gas and oil etc. Russia ruled Ukraine for over 200 years. Tim cited all of the areas of the current battle as being key areas for Russia.

Crimea, the only warm port of Sebastopol available (Through lease) to the Russian fleet.

i guess Putin will not stop throwing bodies into this conflict? Hence, a change of leadership is likely to be the only option.

They secured lyman and are now building troop numbers again ready for another push I imagine cut off Russian supplies before winter, and they’re still pushing in Kherson direction a bit slower than the other days but still going.

Ukrainian troops have some fucking balls

Lots of rumours among the Russians about them building up force for a push to Melitopol as well. It’s the obvious move but I didn’t expect it before next spring.

When you have the advantage you should press it as far as it’ll let you.

So, Kerch Bridge has been ‘damaged’.
via vpn, the article on RT.com the comments section is like a megaton version of the most controversial SBT threads!

Surely, a peace needs to happen soon?

comments such as the west destroying NordStream and this of course, an assertion that Crimea is their sovereign land, nuke Kiev, send in an army of 2 million. It’s all a tad fractious at the moment…

FWIW, I wonder if China has a role to play in this. Not directly against the west. More so marching on Moscow to demonstrate what communism is? Russia may be leaving the back door open?

OOF. That's some statement by Ukraine. Happy birthday Vlad.

That's going to seriously fuck supply lines to Russian troops in the south.

Listening to a guy this morning on the radio - saying that Russians making a tactical withdrawl to make space for a “heavy” strike - this is coming from dissidents talking from Georgia ( as they have exited Russia) to Russian Soldiers who are on the front retreating line - no idea whether any truth on it - but sounds a bit ominous ?

There was recent speculation around Putin wanting to drop some low yield nukes because of how shit his ground forces are

Thats what I’ve read and am concerned about. Tactical nukes. Hopefully another empty threat but lets be honest its sounding desperate for them so anything could happen

A tactical retreat is not legging it and leaving loads of your valuable equipment and shells behind.

Also if they tried using low yield nukes the west would wipe them off the map in that area

One minor detail, we would also have tactical nukes coming our way. I hope the defences are up to it.

I think fuel is an issue for the Russians in reverse - saw that the Ukrainians got their first T90 ? Rebadged 😀

The rumour about nukes I’ve seen is a low yield test somewhere on the borders. If that happens NATO will step in an wipe the Russians from the map, China will abandon them completely and Putin will like be defenestrated. So I can’t see it. Been no words from Yank intelligence that they’re even preparing for it yet though.

The threat of nukes is way more useful to Russia than actually using them.

Who's been wondering about that bridge over the last week or so.
Looks like it needs a bit more.

I wonder if they’re softening up the bridges for an attach on the south. They did similar in the West before launching their offensive

The Chinese bit just a few years behind us then.

Is there time?
It's what you'd do if that was the intention but a bit early for where it's at currently.
More of statement I think.
You'd have to assume Russia will take it as an attack on its territory
territory.
A bring it on moment?
