Spent a long time creating a similar political and economic climate similar to Putin's. Concentration of huge amounts of capital and key market control concentrated in the hands of a few key allies. Restrictions on independent media and judiciary. Hungarian banks owned by Orban cronies were used to funnel much of the Russian money to Le Pen and others.
Genuinely dislikes the perceived liberal attitudes of EU and perceived Brussels interference in domestic issues. Presevration of national identity etc - the list goes on.
Despite sanctions still a Russian bank operating here as it has full diplomatic immunity - supposedly Orban hides his vast money as well as a front for Russian spy agenices etc.
Still committed to Russia funding and upgrading the main nuclear reactor based here in Paks.

But that funding isn't going to be on it's way anymore and he now just gets ignored in EU decision making. He wanted a strong russia and that isn't happening.

In the end he's weakened his own country and will get nothing out of it in the end.

He can style it out but he's fucked it.

My sarcasm on being "quick off the mark" was in reference to the EU finally (almost) getting around to a price cap sanction.....just a little dig at the super agile levels of efficiency of EU policy decisions really.

There is some pretty gruesome footage around. Modern Warfare with bells on. Ukraine’s advance/clearing of villages is fast and decisive.

I’ve been reading Tim Marshall’s book Prisoner’s of Geography (2015) Well researched and not at all surprising that Ukraine went the way it did, given it’s history.

Nato’s weakness driven by Europe’s in2014/ ambivalence and self-interest due to high dependence on gas and oil etc. Russia ruled Ukraine for over 200 years. Tim cited all of the areas of the current battle as being key areas for Russia.

Crimea, the only warm port of Sebastopol available (Through lease) to the Russian fleet.

i guess Putin will not stop throwing bodies into this conflict? Hence, a change of leadership is likely to be the only option.

Lots of rumours among the Russians about them building up force for a push to Melitopol as well. It’s the obvious move but I didn’t expect it before next spring.
