Is the Tory party done? I saw one poll earlier predicting that they won’t return a single MP in a GE. I don’t see that happening myself but they might not even be the opposition party. The reinvention of the Tories as English nationalist has clearly been found out. It’s not the party it was by any stretch of the imagination and the party it now so blatantly is is not an election winner.

In short no. If Clegg hadn't betrayed the people who voted Liberal then it might be more of a concern, but as it stands there's enough people who love electing the likes of Peter Bone, so they'll stay in, chances are Jeremy Wright etc will avoid being lumped in with the rest of them, and there are some good MPs, even Tory, who ought to survive just because they're good MPs.

The one problem they have is they’ve always had the same deal with members as Russia has with its electorate (basically well win elections and you lot are basically irrelevant), Brexit caused a big change in their membership demographic who are more concerned with smashing things up than preserving the status quo. It’s possible the members will keep electing nutters and there’s not a strong enough traditional membership to wrest the party back.
I think if a UKIP type party existed we’d see both in the high teens low twenties.

Looks like far right populism in Italy is in trouble before she even manages to form a government. Some of her running mates have been found out to be so pro Putin they’d make Corbyn go hold on… wait a minute. She’s planning Liz Truss style tax reforms favouring the wealthy ahead of everyone else, the bond market is licking it’s lips at the prospect fully expecting a golden opportunity to cash in like they just have in the UK.

I'm wondering what the hell it's going to take before we start seeing actual protests? They're clearly only interested in saving their own hides and won't call an election until they're forced to, we can't have another two years of this lot fighting amongst themselves while there's a war and energy crisis raging. Silvio’s bizarre relationship with Putin is well know - he sent him a duvet cover with them both on it - Salvini is also historically pro-Russia.
Meloni has the upper-hand over both of them due to their low % in the vote, so not sure it’ll last more than a year before there’s another technocratic government - the system in place is designed for that to end up as the default.
The flat tax (15%) for everyone was an idea of Salvini - Meloni isn’t in favour of such a low percentage.
She also knows she is heavily reliant on the EU covid recovery fund, which will prevent anything too drastic.
The populism thing is a bit of a myth because there hasn’t been a big swing to it - the right coalition got less percentage overall than other parties but there was the fragmentation of the vote due to the idiot PD and voter apathy.

Really think him getting in could be the first time I'd think the Tories might be about to fracture. Half the MPs won't stand for it.
A lot will depend on what happens next. I know I keep banging on about it but all it needs is a credible leader with a strong, credible cabinet and they could win back some support, even though they’re done for the next election.
If Johnson, Rees Mogg, Dorries and the delusional gang come back in they could be out for a while

I think it’s bigger than that Steve. The parliamentary party is split into at least 3 and the party membership is full off nutters. They could end up with a handful of MP’s and membership of posh UKIPers, it will cease to be the “broad church” they famously brag about being. I don’t know how they can recover from that. They’d need a complete new wave of membership to turn the car around.

The issue of non brits who have never lived here, never paid taxes here, not eligible to vote in a British GE voting for the Tory leader so therefore by default the PM was an issue highlighted in the last leadership contest, the fact that made up people and people not eligible to vote in a UK election are picking yet another PM is a major problem for the Tories. A problem that they’re not interested in addressing.

Even the likes of SUnak suddenly swayed uber-right to appeal to the mentalist membership though - none of them seem strong enough to stick with a vague ideal of principle (I accept you have to compromise) rather than a lust for power.
