Personally feel he has a lot more to offer. I wouldn’t but surprised if we see more of the player maker side on show if we play the box with COH and Allen/Palmer ahead of him. And/or wing backs playing more offensively.

Made the point before, but the performances of players like him and Sheaf (and Hamer too) are interlinked with the system and movement of those around them.

Someone said earlier in the thread he 'bottles out of 50/50s' which I really don't agree with. I think his aggression is one of his biggest attributes, although at times can see him get sucked in high up the pitch and lose out, leaving us a little exposed. I think he looks 'fine' at centre midfield and I think that's a compliment for someone of his age and lack of first team games. He is fairly cautious with his passing, but not really a problem when he has a better passer next to him in Sheaf or Hamer. I don't think he is particularly close to taking either of those two out the team for a lengthy period but a reliable back up who can do a job, and to be honest is probably a more competent understudy than a fit Kelly.

Hes 22. Wont hit his peak for another 5-6 years and is currently starting in midfield for a mid table championship side. Some of the comments are laughable. He will be an absolutely fantastic midfielder in a couple of seasons
He's only been starting because of injuries and suspensions. Do you really think he will play instead of Hammer or Sheaf?

I didn't say he would? He's done a very good job though and over the course of the season will play a lot of games if he can stay injury free

He is proving you wrong, game by game.
You failed to answer anything in my post though. Eccles is just…there.

Does he attack well? No
Does he defend well? No
Does he pass well? God No
Is his positioning and anticipation good? No

He’s very unremarkable. At least Shipley could strike a ball well.

Does he attack well? No Creates more chances than Sheaf
Does he defend well? No - Makes more clearances and blocks than Hamer and more clearances than Sheaf
Does he pass well? God No - Has a marginally better pass completion % than Hamer
Is his positioning and anticipation good? No - Makes more interceptions than Hamer

No one is saying he is better than Hamer or Sheaf but to say he's not good at anything is frankly rubbish

What is he supposed to be? Because if he’s a defensive minded CM he doesn’t break up play anything like enough and his pass percentage is poor.

If he’s a Hamer style play maker he doesn’t create enough or move t ball quickly or forwards enough.

Its a bit of a fix to compare his defensive stuff to Hamer and his offensive to Sheaf.

I think he has the potential to be either, but as mentioned his defensive stats are generally better than Hamer's.

And I wasn't trying to fix anything, just the other guy said he doesn't do anything well so I was pointing out that actually he does some things better than Hamer and some things better than Sheaf.

Yeah but my point is Hamer and Sheaf have defined roles in the team. Eccles problem, which seems to be common for young CMs is he’s OK at everything but not really excelling at anything. You wouldn’t replace either with him not because of overall talent but because each are better at their jobs.

For me he needs to impose himself more and improve his range of passing. I’d like to see him playing men’s football regularly rather than sitting on our bench all season. I think a year in L1 would be perfect if we could afford to lose him.

He's going to play plenty of games here. Hamer will get suspended/injured, Sheaf will get suspended/injured. We are playing every 3 days so there will be rotation.

Would you have him in ahead of Kelly and Allen?

Think we should all remember Eccles is just a few games into this stage of his career very much still a bit of a rookie will take rest of this season to see if he’s the business or not, look at Ben Sheaf as an example his first season was okay but not brilliant now one of the better midfielders in the division.
Let’s give him a chance.

Id argue he’s got the same problems TBF, lightweight, not good enough either defensively or offensively but tidy and puts a shift in.
Eccles is not lightweight at all. Wins a lot of tackles and aerial balls as well as a good reading of the game to intercept the ball. He will go way further than Allen in the game

I agree with all your points especially his reading of the game saw it it at close quarters in the 2nd half on Wednesday his pass to Hamer for his shot was simple but effective and when Vic was brought down made up good ground and was in a great position in the box had the ball come back to him.Like you say his reading of the game is very good for a player of his age.

He's the only one after breaking through from the under age set up we need more coming through to the first team

Too many fans forget about age on here . Maybe myself included time to time

Like I notice ppl don't wanna praise panzo too much cos he's not perfect yet but he's pretty damn good for a 21yo right?

Some had a go at Ryan Kent and he's gone on to shine in Europeon completions. Jacob Murray plays alot in the premier League.

It's too early to make final judgements on players when they come to us young

Considering Eccles has played a good chunk of his minutes out of position and has only recently started getting games in central midfield, and came back from a serious injury in the summer, some of the comments here are baffling.

Give him time playing the same role in the same position and see how he develops.

Don't know the bloke. What I appreciate is a defensive midfielder who does his job really well and still has 15 years left in the game
