I just think it's fucking weird that you are a member of a CCFC forum and only comment on off the field issues and the off topic politics section.
I really don’t know what it’s got to do with you or why you take such an interest in what I do or don’t comment on. What I find weird is that it’s keeping you awake at night.

The lads who insisted Russia were winning the war don't post in here anymore.

What are your views now?

Not looking for a pile on or a gotcha or anything, just genuinely interested to hear your thoughts.

They just don't get it.
NATO didn't "recruit" these countries - these countries wanted to join to preserve their newly won independence after 40 years of Soviet control. The thinking here now is that if we weren't part of NATO we would be next in line for Russian expansion. And on a country by country (except Poland) basis the Russians could pick them off because they are nowhere near the size of Ukraine.
There's another senior Russian politician today saying the aim is still to defeat Ukraine and park the Russian army along the borders of all these expansion states.
A new law went through here months back saying all able-bodied men are subject to immediate conscription in the case of the threat of invasion

Just wondering? Which country do you refer to in the bottom paragraph?

We're in Hungary
It’s a tough one. But I think Hungary would defend as robustly as Ukraine. Is there any evidence of a build up? I hear about Latvia having a large number of NATO forces there all the time.

Standing army is less than 25000. Miliary service stopped years back so training up reserves would be difficult.
There's no major build up atm (don't want to be provocative) and don't really have much kit to build up. They'd be completely reliant on NATO (and kieranp96!! :) ).
Announced big expansion and investment for the future even though they can't afford it.
Small NATO force here atm as Govt not particularly co-operative.
There aren't large numbers of NATO troops anyway apart from Germany. Likes of the Baltic states have a few thousand per country (was much less pre-Ukraine). Much like Ukraine in that NATO would have to give territory up in these Eastern European states before organising its response.

We can laugh now but back in March we sat down and discussed exactly these points. No-one here thought Ukraine would stop the Russians getting here.
I know we had similar conversations but we decided we would stay here until we had to leave but obviously if we couldn’t we would do something to help out.

NATO will probably just say ‘don’t you do that again you naughty boys’ & give them a warning
Think the worst well see is increased weaponry to Ukraine and a clear message that if any more “mistakes” happen it’s A5 time.

You're both probably right lads, but in theory this could seriously be a Franz Ferdinand/Black Hand Gang/World War 1 moment.

What a bunch of fucking idiots.

Hopefully we’ve moved on a bit from WW1, and it probably helps the Russians that they’ve been acting like fucking incompetent idiots for months which makes the idea it was a mistake more plausible 😂

the Russians only sensible move now is to say "sorry we were aiming for targets in the Lyiv region, any official saber rattling from the Russians is only going to end with them taking a kicking"

Childish petulant behaviour from Russia. The whole wave of attacks on Ukraine today is just a hissy fit from criticism at the G20. Even India and China visibly distancing themselves from Russia whereas they were keen on being “independent” previously. Hopefully the projectile that landed in Poland was just a mistake or failure of equipment rather than a desperate move to drag others into it in the same way Sadam did by firing missiles at Israel.

Likely trigger article 4 and not 5 meaning much more Nato support for Ukraine but no actual nato boots on the ground
