What are uranium reserves like? I'm on board with the argument for nuclear but it still isn't the ideal scenario (IE one where the UK is materially self-dependent on its domestic energy supply)

We’ve wasted too much time to worry about ideal. Hopefully 100 years is long enough to get fusion off the ground or significantly improve renewables. I’d still want solar and wind at every viable location personally.

Any idea why nuclear power station are built on coasts, mostly away from population centres, and are scarce in amount built compared to other power plants?
Registering deaths per KWH is just bonkers.
The true toll of the Chernobyl disaster
Covered up by a secretive Soviet Union at the time, the true number of deaths and illnesses caused by the nuclear accident are only now becoming clear.

I think our standards would be a bit better than the Soviet ones of 40 years ago. But consider how ‘habitable’ some parts of the world already are because of continued fossil fuel usage. Look at what’s starting to happen each summer with other parts of the world going on fire.
We need a rapid way to immediately wean off coal oil and gas while the long term answer is found.

Chernobyl. Really? You realise how that happened didn’t you? Again do you think that would happen in this day and age? In this country? It’s like saying trains aren’t safe as a technology because of 7/7.

The current breed of climate activists get a lot of shit but I thought the XR ones who shut down that airfield used by private jets had the right idea. Focus on that and you’ll probably actually do significant good and have the public behind you.

Yes the argument that our problems especially climate change is down to overpopulation isn't right at all. The problem is the behaviour of the richest few.

Private aircraft are responsible for more pollution than commercial aircraft. Yet the rhetoric always seems to be making Joe Bloggs feel guilty about flying to Spain once a year with 80 other people on a Ryan Air flight with a shared carbon footprint. Reality is that if we banned private jets the world can probably sustain commercial flights in conjunction with carbon offsetting projects and we can all travel guilt free.

Been talking about this on Bloomberg today. No change in the market though. China50 went up like a rocket at 6.00am, now holding steady. Can see big changes in the next few weeks if it spreads.
