I would assume that would give Bellingham license to play much further forward than when he played alongside Rice, ie in the Mount role

Yeah, don’t mind this although would rather Phillips than Henderson (just wonder what he’s got left). Like the changes overall though. Let’s hope they pull their collective fingers out

Seems like 3 of them will be.

Whether they're being dropped or rested is a different question I suppose.

You might be right. The final group game might be the time he rests them. There is often a pattern with that.

What are the chances they are back in for the next game though? You probably couldn't get odds on it.

I guess what Henderson does give is a bit of stability to not panic if we're not three up after half an hour.

I would be surprised if he dropped any of his favourites: Sterling, Kane, Saka, Mount.

Even as has been said, in bigger games we will need to outscore opponents, setting up defensively and playing Henderson, Bellingham, Rice together would be a recipe for disaster. Another sound bite repeated on this thread, but it would be like the Italy game again where a conservative mindset fucked us.

We need to be aggressive and attack if we're going to get anywhere in this tournament.

Agree about being on the front foot but Southgate was playing five at the back and two sitters in previous tournaments ! This is still a step forward…or should be. Bellingham in a more forward midfield role is a good move

Rice doesn't really play as a sitting midfielder at West Ham, does he? He's a box to box player yet England waste him

He used to very much be a sitting midfielder, but has definitely become more box to box these days.

I guess the issue is England don't really have a natural sitting midfielder, maybe Philips I suppose, so Rice has to play there as the best option.

Rice and Bellingham can (and hopefully will) be a world class midfield partnership for the next 5-10 years.

Would like to see Walker back in tonight, because it's quite possible Wales will start with James or Johnson for their speed.

Which is why playing Henderson could make a lot of sense. Let Rice and Bellingham support the front three more.

Really hope Foden has a good game presuming the reports he’s going to start are correct. Like Mount, he’s not really had a stand out game at international level against good opposition yet.

Personally, I’d have rested Kane for the USA but now we’re in a position where he needs to play.

I thought that was a really good first half. Think England would prefer Ecuador to go through though.

If England can't beat either Senegal or Ecuador then they deserve to go out. Neither look up to much.

I'd back us against the Never Never Lands too tbh. Although if we don't get a result tonight then we also deserve to go out.
