Messi has probably had his best world cup for Argentina .. the worst thing to happen now is morroco beat France as then its practically Argentinas trophy .
My favourite Argentina player is DiMaria. Why isn't he involved more?

Are the commentators allowed to say that assist was good or will it make people cry again?

Croatian defenders paid off to ensure Argentina make the final.

It's great to see Messi still running around with a ball the way he did as a child, if he was English he'd have had that coached out of him by someone telling him to stop showing off.

We would have demanded that he did more running. I suspect some Cov fans would rather have Jamie Allen.

One things for certain if Messi was English and Southgate picked him as a favourite ahead of James Maddison I’d be fuming

Most ex-pros (or even current ones) don't actually understand the Laws of the Game.
Yeah, I find it odd they're considered peers in expertise here. You wouldn't ask a referee for his thoughts on three at the back versus a traditional 4-4-2 and take their views as equal to managers.

Therein lies the problem. And there will be at least another 56 years unless it is solved.

Yup and I'm always guilty of looking ahead and thinking 'in two years time player x and y will be at their peak, we'll win it then!'

It can't always be down to bad luck/refs/lack of subs each time. How do we differ from Germany/Italy for example?

We seem much closer now in ability/fitness/coaching/tactics, so what's left? Is it mentality/bottle?
I think the atmosphere in the final last year played into the Italians’ hands with booing of the anthem, the constant booing of the players etc.
I think part of it is also a desire to win above all else and an expectation of winning.

I think should Messi win the World Cup it would be a fitting end to a superb career , he has had his best world cup by miles this time round , but let's remember the Argentines were on the back of a copa America and a 30 something unbeaten run before the World Cup.

They are a good side .

But I still don't want them to win it 😂

So France need to prevail against Morocco to have a chance of stopping it

And as already stated , it's a shit choice between Argentina and France

Thinking that the commentators are going massively over the top for what was a shite shot and thinking that was a good run are not mutually exclusive belief systems ;)

Surely surpassed Batistuta by now in your eyes, right?

He was a mile offside so free kick given

VAR looked and it was a stonewall penalty so why would it interfere?

The move to create the shot was genius. You went awfully silent after the third goal. What players do you actually rate?
hi boosh

bye boosh

He's always been a better player , was never the argument.

Messi has 11 goals in 26 games

Basitstuta 10 in 12

Before the World Cup Messi had 6 goals in 19 games

My argument was valid

Messi has been very good this WC

Shown an aggression I don't think I've noticed before.
Like I think his first goal (can't remember who against) but the defender was running up the line to finally get it away after some sustained pressure.
Messi just followed and edged him and the Ball into touch.
The anger and frustration on the defender's face said it all .
Throw in follows and the rest is history ,stroked a curled shot across the turf bang

it depends on situations

Lineker has an identical record to Batistuta

Coubillas is very close but he really wasn’t very good

Not sure why two hat-tricks against Greece and Jamaica in the group stages should count for so much in Batistuta’s favour - even Southgate has won more knockout games at the World Cup then him.

Your argument may have been valid a week ago, but Messi’s World Cup record already has him far beyond any Argentine not named Maradona, and that could even change this Sunday. It’s crazy to me that so many on here are upset to see it play out in our lifetime.

I edited the muller comment as it was wrong I’d looked at the wrong line

His record really is the best of any World Cup striker considering the opposition then

I mean , you've literally just said my argument was valid when I made it .. so we agree

Also in the future as the competition is diluted further , the level of opposition will only decline

How many times a week do you have to replace the asterisk key on your keyboard, it must be absolutely knackered by now

My grammar is not the best 😂 2 people have picked me up in the last 24 hours but I'm just going to be honest and say I really don't care
