Always wanted us to use a long throw. So much more useful than a corner. I remember one game a few years back where Robins actually allowed McCallum (I think) to use his long throw. Caused problems every time.
I’m the opposite - always found long throws to be tedious anti-football, whether it’s us or the opponents using them. Good for timewasting and the occasional soft goal but otherwise I’d rather just watch actual football.

Great when we scored from McCallums

Our former MD Chris Anderson wrote a book about it - Stoke basically used Delap’s long throws to waste time on a historic level. They spent something stupid like a third of the game collecting the ball, drying the ball, setting up for long throws etc - the rationale being that if you minimise the amount of time that the opposition (or anyone!) has the ball, the less likely they are to beat you. I’d have asked for a refund.

Congratulations to Wrexham on their comfortable win.

That is an absolutely awful side.

Those players still play for a club 3 divisions higher than our opponents FFS...

I get the whole cup shocks thing but regardless of what you think of our players and their recent form, the majority of that team are arguably much better than the Wrexham team.

I agree that we should win but there have always been cup upsets. It's not a case of "our eleven players are better than your eleven players" It's a question also of team dynamics and motivation and, of course, your best team is not necessarily your best eleven players.

I'd argue that the likes of Todd Kane, Kelly, Waghorn, Reid and Taveres will end up in the same league as Wrexham next season if they get promoted.

How are they different to a corner then? If you have a player like McCallum it feels like a reasonable approach sometimes, just can become predictable if over used

After the Bristol game, Robins mentioned players playing with little game time so I imagine we'll see Waghorn, Palmer, Kelly and Dabo starting. Don't think we even have much rotation available in the squad.
Hopefully Moore can get a good performance in too

Yes I think most of our players need more gametime rather than less, so resting players makes no sense. Personally would not want to see Waghorn playing.

I’ve seen some artful/skilful goals scored from corners, but never from long throw-ins. It seems like the most crude way to score to me. Not saying they should be banned, I just don’t find them good to look at!

Fair enough. For me any goal we score is enjoyable but I see what you mean.

It's a tough one as I think we should rest Vik ideally for the league. Don't think Tavares would do much on his own up front either.
Think Waghorn is okay on the ball, but his legs look gone

We seem to have improved our normal throw in routines recently. I’m fact we seem to have been practicing all our set pieces recently.

Equally a two week gap of not playing isn't always a blessing.

He also discussed, in the very first chapter, how purists almost feel that a goal from a long throw-in (citing Stoke/Delap as the example) isn't as deserved even though they're worth just as much as any other goal. I'd absolutely take it as an addition to the way we play, rather than the overriding tactic.

Moore for Wilson, Burroughs at LWB, Dabo at RWB. Kelly and possibly Howley to start centre mid and Waghorn and Tavarres as front 2. Back 3 will need to be the same unless he shifts Bidwell there for Panzo or Doyle. Really hope Vik, Sheaf and Hamer get a rest. Still think that's a fair team

Agreed. Playing twice a week can be a problem for some players but it seems playing regularly once a week is optimal for fitness. A break of a couple of weeks seems to hamper form I feel.

I would sooner Gyo, Hamer and Sheaf get at least an hour and hopefully a confidence boost, than watch an awkward performance from players who are usually benched and thus not sharp.

Well they thrashed Solihull 2-1 at the weekend, which backs up the claim they have players that could hold their own in the Championship. Seriously though, i hope we don't put out a disjointed mess of a team and risk another embarrassing cup defeat. Sooner start with a couple of the big boys and try and put them away by half time.

Sorry but a few of your players wouldn't hold their own at championship level. I watch Torquay regularly and I haven't seen a player over the last 2 seasons who's remotely close to this level. The gap is massive these

Did you go to the Wrexham game when torquay got beat 6-0?

Joking aside and taking Wrexham players out of it, the league is full of quality players, Birmingham were going to sign Tshimanga last season and only didn't because of a failed medical, Championship clubs are all over Langstaff (Notts C) this January window, Sorba Thomas a few seasons ago.

Dont get me wrong there is some right dross in NL and I mean abysmal, some played for you and us Stuart Beavon, Ponticelli, Adebola, Thornton to name a few but to dismiss the whole league is nonsense.

Just seen Mark Robins thoughts on the game and giving players a break. It's ok if your strong enough which maybe the case, but The FA cup always produces shocks, why not just knock us out at your place and move on. Last thing you need is a replay then you will have to play a stronger team anyway I'd assume at our place.

Unfortunately clubs nowadays don’t see the FA cup the same as supporters. I would be more than happy to play our strongest 11 and win the game comfortably, but I’d imagine a cup run means a lot more to Wrexham than it does to us.

It’s almost a certainty that Robins won’t play the likes of Gyokeres or Hamer in case of injury, especially as we have just lost our talisman O’Hare to an ACL. At the end of the day the league is far more important, and we are in with a real shout of finishing in the play offs. Play and potentially lose Gyokeres through injury against (No disrespect intended) Wrexham in the FA cup would be almost suicidal to our chances.

City have to take this serious, we should play our best team available. We have a dreadful track record of cup shocks. Wrexham with a big following will be up for this and the media will be dribbling over the possibility.

Yeah and the club needs the money.

I just don’t get this mentality sorry.

Its got defeat written all over it this one. Play a weakened team against a lower league team, in great form with a big support. They will be up for it, high on confidence.

it's delusional to think Wrexham have any players that are championship level. some NL have moved to this level and been a success but that is a handful.

yes shocks do happen but even a waghorn/kelly/fab tav level should easily beat them

if we for some mad reason play the likes of gus and vik we should being getting 5 or 6

Ticket sales look hilarious

wont be more than 6k Cov

..... and you're happy about that?

If you are correct then we don't really deserve to progress further, and if we do get knocked out it will be hypocritical of those not bothered themselves to criticise the team for doing so.

Personally I just find it really sad, and feel that the lack of interest in the competition that provided the greatest day in our history, kind of belittles that history. Hopefully as the matchday approaches there will be more interest than you predict.

Where did I say I was happy about it? That's you assuming

You've got to think, its January, in a cost of living crisis, and a fixture that's not exactly going to get people excited, especially with such a stupid kick off time.

I'm not going, but that's because I could do with the £40+ it would cost me taking all into account to get up there with the kids. There's a lot of people in the same boat hence the complete lack of ticket sales.

A signing or two, or confirmation of the takeover could help boost ticket sales. With the cheap prices, walk up will probably be decent too
