Shipley or an 18 year old full back playing in midfield? I know my choice.
Zain Westbrooke released from Bristol Rovers.
Strange one. Always thought he looked great for us.
Plays at LWB for Shrewsbury at the moment.
I agree but a lot on here wanted him goneWhen you look at what we have now you have to wonder why we let him go - a reasonable squad player in the mould of a Telfer who can occupy various positions
I think so but on the premise that he'd be replaced with better. What's actually happened is that he hasn't even been replaced.I agree but a lot on here wanted him gone
I liked him too, technically a good footballer but he was lightweight and I think played his way out of the team by the end of the L1 promotioin seasonZain Westbrooke released from Bristol Rovers.

He’s not good enough for this level but it is mental we got rid of him without replacing. It's a literal SHFWF that some are flirting with having Shipley back.
Madness.

The last 3 windows have been absolutely disastrous. Squad not even stagnating but actively shrinking.
I don't think anyone's said thatPeople wanting Westbrooke back too. Christ.
I don't think anyone's said that
I thought Bayliss was the real deal for a young lad had so much composure.

He's one of those players who would probably fare better in a championship side than a mid-table side in L1/L2, but he's not going to get that luxury - so needs to find a way to adapt his game
Joey Barton described him as a 'footballing leper' recently as no-one seemed to want to take him - shame to see his career decline but hope he can get back on track

Same was said of Rubin Lameiras. He’s now in the Portuguese top flight playing for one of the better teams.
I would argue that Westbrook flattered to deceive and went missing in plenty of games.
Technique there but physicality not-and that’s what you need in English Football.
Same for Rubin.

We’re already giving contract extensions to players who aren’t good enough, so it seems inevitable.I agree with the second line as pretty much my gospel at the moment. Recruitment has been shocking.
My worry is that some of this deadwood we are talking about are going to get contact extensions.
Players?????!!!!We’re already giving contract extensions to players who aren’t good enough, so it seems inevitable.
Think this was the young lad we had who went to Man United, then onto Rangers...

I also really liked him, not keeping him on was an error.Used to bang my head against the wall when people slated Lamerias. Very gifted footballer.
Shipley wasn't good enough at this level. Lovely goal the other day and not surprising as we all know he's got a great left foot.
But he's not better than Bidwell or Wilson Esbrand at LWB (making an assumption on the latter).
He's not better than Hamer, Sheaf, Eccles in midfield.
He's not better than O'Hare, Palmer or Allen at AM.
So yeah I guess he could have stayed as 3rd or 4th choice cover in those positions but his minutes would have been very limited. Best all round for him and the club to let him go.
He would never have been in ahead of O'Hare, Hamer, Sheaf etc but when you see the squad right now, he'd be a good replacement off the bench. Much better than two goalkeepers, Kelly, Burroughs etc.
Based on what we've seen of Eccles in midfield, I'd argue there is not much in it.
IIRC, I think we offered him a new deal for the L2 season but he rejected it and went to PortugalI also really liked him, not keeping him on was an error.
