Shipley or an 18 year old full back playing in midfield? I know my choice.

Luke Leahy is doing well at the moment for Shrewsbury, too. Score 4/5 goals in the last month or so. Few assists today too.

Interesting that I think most of us saw Shipley as becoming a steady, useful but unspectacular player, but Bayliss as having more potential for being a standout player.

Zain Westbrooke released from Bristol Rovers.

Strange one. Always thought he looked great for us.
I liked him too, technically a good footballer but he was lightweight and I think played his way out of the team by the end of the L1 promotioin season

He's one of those players who would probably fare better in a championship side than a mid-table side in L1/L2, but he's not going to get that luxury - so needs to find a way to adapt his game

Joey Barton described him as a 'footballing leper' recently as no-one seemed to want to take him - shame to see his career decline but hope he can get back on track

He’s not good enough for this level but it is mental we got rid of him without replacing.

The last 3 windows have been absolutely disastrous. Squad not even stagnating but actively shrinking.

I agree with the second line as pretty much my gospel at the moment. Recruitment has been shocking.

My worry is that some of this deadwood we are talking about are going to get contact extensions.

He's never going to fare better in a Championship side, he's nowhere near good enough and the game at Championship level is more physical not less, it's physically in the sense of the pace that it is played at.

I wonder if Leeds will come back in for him 😂

Same was said of Rubin Lameiras. He’s now in the Portuguese top flight playing for one of the better teams.

I would argue that Westbrook flattered to deceive and went missing in plenty of games.

Technique there but physicality not-and that’s what you need in English Football.

Same for Rubin.

Used to bang my head against the wall when people slated Lamerias. Very gifted footballer.

When you look at what we have now you have to wonder why we let him go - a reasonable squad player in the mould of a Telfer who can occupy various positions

Especially when you consider the wages he would have been on. I'd imagine Palmer came in on 3x the amount.

Shipley wasn't good enough at this level. Lovely goal the other day and not surprising as we all know he's got a great left foot.

But he's not better than Bidwell or Wilson Esbrand at LWB (making an assumption on the latter).

He's not better than Hamer, Sheaf, Eccles in midfield.

He's not better than O'Hare, Palmer or Allen at AM.

So yeah I guess he could have stayed as 3rd or 4th choice cover in those positions but his minutes would have been very limited. Best all round for him and the club to let him go.

I also really liked him, not keeping him on was an error.

He would never have been in ahead of O'Hare, Hamer, Sheaf etc but when you see the squad right now, he'd be a good replacement off the bench. Much better than two goalkeepers, Kelly, Burroughs etc.

Based on what we've seen of Eccles in midfield, I'd argue there is not much in it.

But people are complaining that we're carrying a lot of deadwood, Shipley would just be another example of that.

It was the right time for him to move on I think.
