I think the hope is if you duct tape Ayari Allen and Eccles together you get a Gus.

I know he looks like he might’ve put on a bit of weight since the move but that’s a bit much Shmmeee !

Wouldn’t mind going 4 at the back with Lati and Bidwell at FB and two young CBs (maybe a bit harsh on Dasilva and fadz) but unlikely. Just hope we at least come into the game with some energy and purpose as Cardiff we started at walking pace and never really got into game

We will do these tonight. Robins will want a reaction after the performance against Cardiff. Can’t see him tinkering with the formation though.

Tippy tappy against Watford cost us a goal.

We were trying to pass through a constipated midfield when there was always space down the wings . The Watford defence was flaky

Guys , we talk about tippy tippy football like its a problem but it's not , it's done many great sides well over the last few years.. I do prefer high press fast counter as a style, more the Liverpool title season style , but I'm not against playing the passing game .
Part of out issue has been the speed which we move the ball and transition into attack , its simply far too slow .

We also have no drive or energy through the middle which means wing backs often have to turn back on themselves and forwards rarely get balls through in behind .

We are playing the right game wrong , Robins has already alluded to this

A quick passing game is not tippy tappy, and is my preferred style, although knowing when to play the quick long ball is an art that we seem to lack, or are afraid to play.

Our problem is a lack of vision which leads to a build up / transition which is too slow

I mean we are 7 games in with new players, last season the art of mixing it up and going long at the right time almost got us promoted

We will get it right give the team and manager time

Agreed but we had players who could do it and knew when to do it

We’ve come away from what we’re good at: fast, counter attacking. You can clearly see Robins is trying to convert us to a possession based team but losing the quality we have, the build up has become slow with safe passing and we don’t have the penetrative pass quality. It will take time to evolve it

Wright as a no.10 is the wildest shout I’ve ever heard. That’s before we even talk about the midfield pairing of a CB and AM.
Yeah it is a bit wild tbf and I know almost everyone will laugh at it but I genuinely do think Wright has the ability to play in a wider attacking role that’s not necessarily in a striker position. It’s a wild punt and probably not ideal at this stage but I would be interested to see it at some point 😂

He’s played at least wide in a three before I think.

It works with a midfield, not just across the back 3 until one of them whacks it.

I feel like we do have the players though, as bad as they’ve both looked I think Wright and Simms have the pace and strength to run in the channels. Wright nearly scored against Leicester doing exactly that, and I think an Ayari & Saka combo would be able to pick out the passes for Wright/Simms to run onto. We just haven’t ever looked like playing that type of long ball game so far this season. Personally, and of course I don’t doubt I may be wrong, I think that’s what Wright and Simms need so they can get going this season, they don’t look like tricky, slick strikers to me, more like raw pace and strength.

I have suggested that before, as I think Wright has the ability to run the channels and either have a shot himself or preferably lay it off for Godden. An alternative, in a change of formation, could be to play him and Sakamoto as conventional wide men.

It may not work but things aren't working at the moment so it has to be worth a go. It would play to Sakamoto's strengths and it might work for Wright.

I think most teams play possession football these days .it's the number one priority and if you score that's a bonus ! If you haven't got anyone who knows where the net is or you have no pace it looks thoroughly ineffective.

We had both. Now we have neither.

Haha yeah I can see him wide in a front 3 with space to run into but he surely can’t be anywhere with the ball in a congested area. He can’t control it at the best of times.

Of course, us (and even more so Luton) were quite direct last season-and it was effective. Nobody saw us and Luton as play-off finalists before the season. We don't actually know if the new strikers are more suited to how we played last season as we have switched to possession football-without Hamer, O'Hare and Allen, who would have been more suited to it than Kelly, Eccles etc. So we're stuck playing possession football with no cutting edge.

Yeah that’s exactly my concern with him, I’m not saying it’ll definitely work but I reckon with more time and space he could improve his game.
