Something that sobered me up recently was if 95% of the deaths in the last 15 years have been on the Palestinian side and Israel deaths were 1500 from last weekend they may well think it’s not fair until 30000 are dead!

We agree it will get worse, much worse.
Decades?, maybe a few months but we are both guessing. And is that a negative? This is just part of the overall campaign.
Possibly, obviously more would be better.
I assume the plan is to degrade the IDF, not sure it would be serious, but the best way of doing that would be in a war of attrition in a built up area. Somewhere you have had many years to prepare, not in the open countryside.

You need to step back and look at the situation from a Hamas perspective.
