Israel - Palestinian Conflict (18 Viewers)

So at least we agreed it's a completely one sided pro Palestine march at very best.

Yes. It is a pro Palestinian march and a march for peace and the call for a ceasefire.

It's being painted by much of the media through as a pro Hamas thing.

Well its not anti hamas is it, that's for sure.

But it’s not us/our government undertaking the actions in Gaza/Israel. Very different
Correct - it’s another government acting unilaterally, but doing so with our government’s support (remind you of anything?)

That’s the part (some of) the protestors are trying to address. This is not complicated.

I honestly don’t see that Otis. You could argue that the marches are being painted as more anti Israel, some Jewish people might argue anti Jew. I’ve not seen any media suggesting their pro Hamas

I'm sure the Mail is hinting at that for one.

We went to war in Iraq. We’re not involved with this. Both the government and Labour have called on Israel to follow international law but have also stated that they have the right to defend themselves. I’m sure behind the scenes they’re imploring Israel to minimise any civilian casualties. I believe this pressure will continue to increase with or without marches

Wrong, it's an anti Israeli march, fuelled by hatred of Jews.
Remember that less than 24 hours after the Oct 7 barbarism and days before any Israeli military response, thousands were on the streets of the UK celebrating.

So you concede that the British government is playing a direct role in this conflict behind the scenes, but you still think a protest aimed at shifting the government’s position is pointless? Again, no-one is suggesting Sunak or Starmer have a magic wand capable of ending this carnage, but to suggest there’s no rationale for these protests (while other anti-war protests were apparently fine) is ridiculous.

Btw, if these pro-Palestinian protests really are so futile, what would be the value in these anti-Hamas protests that people are apparently so keen to see?

I’m not being a twat but you really do need to read my previous posts properly.

Seriously?

CND and the Anti-War Coalition are part of and part organisers of the marches

Do they have a hatred of Jews?

Is that what you're saying?

I used to be in CND myself many years back and I can never remember them saying they hated Jews. 🤔

Maybe I missed that meeting

What am I missing?
I’d have a lot more respect if those marching for a ceasefire were also targeting hamas and the release of the hostages, albeit they’re even less likely to listen to someone in london on a Saturday afternoon than the Israeli government. That’s what a real peace march would look like though. Anyone who does, full respect as there won’t ever be a proper ceasefire/resolution without positive actions in these areas as well

What I don't get, is why anybody would be wound up about a march for peace. I can understand concerns that the general atmosphere being cultivated risks a massive PR disaster from people who haven't been going on them until now, and personally I consider it naive in the extreme to not give this weekend a miss. However, the general principle that we don't want bloodshed...?

Picking on the outskirts of movements is like suggesting all socialists are closet Trotskyists, or all Tories are big fans of Pinochet, and all it does is distract (wilfully?) from a message that actually, a bit of peace, talking, and constructive efforts is better than firing rockets at one another!

Well said.

Your “bigger point” @CCFCSteve was that the marches “won’t make any difference” - that’s what I’m trying to unpack here.

Personally I don’t see how anyone could argue that a march attended by hundreds of thousands of people on a weekly basis in cities around the world “won’t make any difference”. But seeing as you appear to have deleted or edited the original post where you said that, then maybe that goes some way to explaining why you think I’m struggling to read them.

Far be it for me to help him out but...
That’s never going to happen though SBT. Either way Israel will do what it will do (rightly or wrongly). I can understand the march to bring attention to the plight of Palestinians currently and a show of solidarity, weekly marches won’t make any difference though and unfortunately might well lead to unrest as well as probably making the UKs Jewish population feel pretty uncomfortable

I can assure you I don’t think I have deleted or substantially edited (apart from typos etc) any post

Edit- just checked and not sure if the bit you quoted was me responding to a point from yesterday (which I didn’t finish) which I hadn’t deleted when responding to Otis post this morning. It was up for about 5 seconds

Nearly 11,000 dead Palestinians since the Hamas terror attacks in Israel.....

Over 4000 dead Palestinian children.

Over 25,000 seriously injured Palestinians

2 million innocent oppressed people forcibly displaced, starved & bombed from their homes.

Israeli leader clearly stating they will annex, occupy & steal the territory, despite the too little, too late whispers from the West calling for restraint....

......But according to our home secretary, its a hate march......

The only hate I've got is for her.....Fuck you Braverman.....I hope you get cancer of the c**t!

Yeah that was a few days ago. If you click through that link, then the post he made on the same issue this morning that I quoted appears to have completely disappeared. Must be a mistake.

Yeah, my bad, was half a draft answer to a post yesterday that came up in my reply to Otis this morning.

I only noticed once I’d already posted reply so I edited immediately.

Edit (again 😊) - I stand by the point I made though. I don’t think the marches will change anything in terms of Israel’s stance but have said it’s an individuals right to protest
