FFS stop torturing yourself (and the rest of us). The whole idea of a penalty shootout is that it produces a winner because someone's guaranteed to miss, and it could easily be a player who knocks them in for fun in practice. Let's face it, in many shootouts there are multiple misses. This one was notable for the quality of the pens, and Luton looked like they might keep smashing them home all day.

Wasn't it stated that Dabo had been a very consistent penalty scorer in training? Maybe, just maybe, there were valid reasons for the order in which they were taken. But I guess you have inside knowledge of the penalty techniques and success rates of the others?

A knockout competition doesn't care about how much of a 'character' you are, or how consistent you are in training. It's what happens on the pitch during a game that counts. I know FP is more or less fishing here, but it's hard to tell what is serious and what isn't amongst such a sea of denial.

Dabo was terrible for many years. It might be horrible, but it is just the reality of it. His attacking stats are horrendous for a reason too, and his ability to strike a ball not much better. It was obvious to me (and a lot of other fans that seemingly have some common sense) that a miss was a very likely outcome (regardless of the weather, hair cut, horoscope, or whatever other shite people are desperately clawing at so they don't have to admit his miss lost us the game and gave Luton promotion).

Now that he has missed and it is still being argued against is honestly borderline insanity. He was the wrong choice, that was apparent to many, and at the end it decided the game and cost us. We might not get another chance for a while, and until we do, that goes down as the moment we lost it unfortunately...

But agree with what another poster said above, everything was stacked against us, even with the coin toss

They want 100 mill for him, not sure they will get it but its going to be a massive fee that could happen very soon. I also wouldn't be shocked if more clubs come in once any indication the club would listen or engage in talks.

The player at some point will want to step up again and he may be in a rush to make that next step.

Prem clubs are so short sighted. 20m was the gamble they could have taken on him in the summer. Now willing to pay 50m+ for him apparently.

When you factor he'd done it over 2 seasons it was bizzare but I guess if a player says X club, makes you wonder sometimes (song title in there) if all is above board?

Arsenal or Chelsea only need to meet his release fee in Jan and he can choose who wants to play for. That potential means another £7-10m for us depending on the 10-15% sell on fee.

I would be surprised if his targets were set at a level achievable in half a season. The translation of the wording of the sell on fee clause is also really important. I have seen it worded as 15% of the capital gain which can be reduced by up to 10% if target are achieved, which would be 13.5% minimum. Very different to the sell on being reduced to 10%

Yes, and Sheffield United paid £18 mil for Archer. Bizarre.


It's strange to the think Gyokeres could go for £100 mil this season, if we were in any of Europe's top divisions we would have made the same fee for him. Easiest money Sporting will ever make.

Can that also not be interpreted as going down from 15 to 5?

If its 15% of the capitol gain I presume that they deduct the £20m they bought him for and its 15% on whats left, is that right?

I hadn’t looked at it that way, and I don’t think anyone else has either. Surely Doug’s not that stupid. Having said that, I was surprised that any reduction seems to be at Sportings “discretion”

I don’t know if their sell on was in perpetuity or a one off. As far as I can see, ours is a one off against any sale Sporting makes. Could easily end up being another £10m which would surely be seen as pretty good business for a player in the last year of his contract.
