Do you not watch Wright?

Very happy with his progress. His assists make up for the goals, although he has been a little unlucky. He pulls defences apart when running at them on the left. Very composed and will only get better.

I do indeed. The jury remains out as he was bought as a goalscorer. Jury’s out doesn’t mean shit

10/10 for the most clueless post in weeks.

Oh hello Danny - funny when the going is tough you hide away and then when we win you magically pop up

Interesting - and noted - my accurate observation is more clueless than Wright being called a pub player and a donkey

He was bought as a striker. His running at players is a part of it. Very strong on the ball. A natural goal scorer. Sets up a lot of chances.

Godden is a goalscorer. But he doesn't have all the other attributes that Wright has. Wright has improved and will continue to improve.

No stat in his career suggests he’s a natural goalscorer and he looks far better when operating in a wide position

Oh there’s some fun to be had reading some of these posts
I know people are quick to decide we're relegation certainties every season but this year was something else.

A huge amount of changes including losing two of the best players in the division yet people expected us to be going on an unbeaten run from game one. We had Robins practically pleading with people to give them time but some of the experts on here were calling for him to be sacked.

Whole summer was weird tbh. After years of wanting SISU out people turned on King because he wasn't prepared to give them massive discounts on market rate or access to the squad.

Yeah, looked a bit lost when he was moved inside yesterday, far more dangerous/effective operating down left of a three

His goal involvements this season must be pretty good now

I've been clueless each pre season for years now. Was also clueless last season when I was sure we would make the playoffs. I'm clueless as I look at the whole picture.

Some people struggle to see past their own views. Ipswich had a settled side at the start of the season. They were picking up points when others were trying to get a side together. Now they're full of confidence. But now the other sides are getting into form I expect them to fall a couple of places at least.

Are they the same stats that told you Robins isn't good enough to be our manager?

I don't go by stats. I go by what I see. When most were calling him a waste of money they ignored what he was doing. Think it was his first goal that was just instinctive. As in natural.

He’s averaged more than a goal every other game over his entire career, what are you on about?

@Saddlebrains has suggested we what a wide attacking player. That makes total sense to me.

Tats aside we are trying to play non wide players in wide roles…. Wright is a forward, Palmer a central midfielder. They can both do a job wide but it is not their natural position.

An injury to Tats and our formation requires us to fill both wide roles with non wide players ….

He's been close to averaging a goal every other game in terms of minutes for the last three and a half years including with us.

Loving how well some of the opinions on this thread have aged.

Would you like to explain how your stats show that Wright isn't a natural goal Scorer?

Didn't think so.

And whilst you're at it can you also explain how your stats show that Robins should have a taxi called for him.

I am a massive fan of Wright, he is constantly in the right positions and yes he has missed a few chances this season but he isn't the only player that struggled at the beginning. All the new players had slow starts and what else would you expect when 8 or 9 new players are all brought in and within 4 weeks have to play a competitive football match against strong teams that haven't had the same number of outgoings and incomings. Wright plays his best football when he is out on the left and without Godden or Simms playing as forwards. If i was Robins, my front 3 would be Wright on the left Kasey Palmer as a false 9 and Sakamoto on the right hand side with O'hare playing behind Palmer. The sole focus is the 4 of them creating space and openings through their really tricky, agile and quick footwork. Simms while he isn't scoring needs to be brought into the team for 25 to 35 minutes per game and coming on for either of the front 3 depending on who is tired. Godden for me really takes away a lot of what makes us such a threat in the final third. As you have seen in many games the sheer work rate and high pressure Sakamoto, Palmer and O'hare put on defenders when trying to win the ball back, Wright has recently started adding this to his game and he will get better and better as the games go on and as the pressure of his price tag slowly is forgotten. No doubt tho, Godden needs to be replaced by someone who will promise you hard work and energy, we also need a central midfield player. Other than that i am really impressed by this new team we have, we have moved away from the 1 or 2 star players and added a really balanced side that suits the players we have.

Good post apart from lack of paragraphs.

Going to be an interesting January.

Obvious gaps in our squad:
-Hamer number 8 replacement
-In the 4-3-3, Robins has no high quality replacements for either Saks or MVE (certain he will address this with a Prem type winger on loan)
-Simms improving but looks to me as if this team needs a top class 9 whilst that is happening (think Robins will do something in the window in Jan?)

Wright looks way better on the left, easier for him to isolate defenders and we are playing more passes in front of him rather than with his back to goal.

Bidwell should have never been dropped in the first place. For some reason Robins has a bee in his bonnet about replacing / upgrading him, but neither Wilson-Esbrand or DaSilva have been anywhere close to his level really. Still time for DaSilva of course, but he didn't deserve to automatically slot in on signing.

Our results and performances have significantly improved with his exclusion from the team. He’s never a standard left back in a back 4
I do feel more confident about us defensively with Bidwell in the left back position. Not saying that De Silva can’t play there, having both competing for the position is a pretty good position to have.

Plenty of players find themselves playing better when used in a different position. The example I saw quoted elsewhere was Robert Rosario. He was signed to replace Cyrille but played much better in midfield when Gould took over as manager

I've always liked Bidwell but he hardly thrilled me at LWB. He's great as a LB. Dasilva has been up and down, I'd rather be bringing him in to cover than some of the squad filler players we've had in recent years.

Its good that from the starting 11 last time around I would still be relatively confident vs Swansea if we changed say 6 players... Simms, Sheaf, Palmer, Allen, Binks, Dasilva could all come in and I'd fancy us. We've not had that before.
