Could Doug potentially throw the kitchen sink at this season?

We have a great base, and if we add 4 or 5 of real top quality with 1 or 2 loans supplementing, theres no reason we cant push automatics

So he can spend millions this summer and if we dont make it its not like we havent got quality assests we can sell one of to cover the loss and go again? One of MVE, Wright, Simms, Sheaf

Just thinking out loud i suppose

Totally agree.

If we sign the right players there's no reason we don't go up.

GK, LB, AM, Back up ST, CB (BINKS), Browne + a loan or two and we are good IMO.

I like that idea. Season tickets are also likely to be up above last season, especially with some talent on show. DK may have learnt his lesson about numbers form the latter half of last season

Im probably talking shit as usual, but it just occured to me in the shower this morning 😂

We have the basis of a fantastic team, add to it with quality, go balls out for the top 2, if it doesnt happen then sell Milan for 20 million quid, cover what we spent this summer and use the remaining 3 or 4 million to get his replacement in and go again

Hope so. Don't care what anyone says, it's a weaker league this year and yes you're right we have assets we can sell for fairly large sums now to cover ourselves if we fall short.

We've already got 4 players who would only be sold for 10m+ (MvE, Sheaf, Wright & Simms). 3 were signed last summer.

It's a risk but would make sense to sign 2-3 top quality prospects for 3m-5m even if Sheaf and Gyok don't go (as long as we stay within PSR).

Then next summer if we don't go up you can sell 2 for combined 20m-30m and the expenditure is recuperated.

I agree if there was a year to gamble a bit its this season. The quality of the league although strong doesn't seem as top heavy this time around. Last season recruits have bedded in, a full uninterrupted preseason will be key. I'd never want to risk the clubs future on an off chance but as you said we have assets to cover our arse if it doesn't come off.

There will be a few other clubs in our position I'd imagine, I have a feeling there will be 1 or 2 surprise teams next season no reason it cant be us

If we play our cards right, I reckon there’s at least £60m in saleable assets in our team right now. That’s being quite conservative in my view. That’s just assuming £15m for MVE, Sheaf, Wright and Simms. Personally, I think there’s more value than that. Factor in Thomas, Kitching, Lati and Eccles you’re looking a good chunk more.

I don’t think he’s throwing the kitchen sink at it, we’ve actually got saleable assets in our team on longer term contracts so there’s room to manoeuvre in our budgets. Last season, we could only leverage Hamer and Vik and both were on expiring contracts.

With ST sales going really well there’s a every reason to belief we can be bullish in the transfer market to get us the quality we need.

I really dont think we've been in this strong a starting position since premier league relegation

If he throws some cash at it now, keeps the assests we have, worst case scenario is we dont make it and 1 of the crown jewels gets sold. However we've shown we can replace on a smaller budget so i really think we need to have a huge tilt at it this summer

We've never had so many assets to cover our arses if it goes tits

That is my take that we will go for it this summer. Main reason being the teams that have come down this season are much weaker than last season.

We’ve got the platform to go for the autos with some shred signings.

totally agree.
there's a right time to make a definite push for promotion, and this is it.
we have the managerial team, we have a good number of good players, just need a bit of quality in a couple of places, and a bit more depth.

right, it's agreed, then. doug, sort it out!

The fact is we don't have the budget to be competing for automatic promotion.
To even compete for top 6, we need to punch above our budget, and hope a number of other clubs under achieve.

We've performed well over the last couple of seasons by recruiting exceptional well (Gyok and Hamer especially) and then sold those players on for good money which has been re-invested.

To carry that model forward we need to get the recruitment absolutely spot on, if we make errors we'll find ourselves mid table very quickly.

If we look for cheaper quality from abroad. We have to understand that those players haven't played 40 games a year at this intensity, and will inevitably have periods when they lose form and get injured, and we simply don't have the funds to carry a squad big enough to account for that.

Yeah I completely agree we should be looking for cheaper purchases abroad, nearly all of our European signings from this season have been brilliant and not cost the earth either. Haji, Saka, Torp and Van Ewijk cost around £17-19 mil combined I think? I think that’s money well spent considering what some teams spend on one player alone.

I’m still of the opinion however that we can spend a bit more and bolster our midfield, I’ve never considered Eccles or Allen to be amazing and I think we can and need to do better if we’re to finish top 4 this season. Particularly if Vik gets sold, we’ll have enough money to buy a few quality players, especially as we’re in profit from our transfers this season just gone.

I was beginning to think along these lines. If some of the transfer links are to be believed there is the possibility of a fair sum of money being thrown at transfers

Also from a shop window perspective players look better in high performing teams and subsequently their value is more likely to increase.

I’m not personally that way inclined but if Stamenic does sign then surely he’s got to be the best looking player we’ve ever had? Good for banners/social media at least? Get a shirt sponsorship with Calvin Klein maybe? 😂
It’s what Doug is holding for, hence the delay in announcing the new shirt sponsor.

I feel like this move for Stamenic is going to be hijacked. Just a feeling; hope I’m way wrong.
