Yeah very true, definitely a balance to be struck and I’m not completely against Browne or McNair but I just look at our transfers from last season, all the semi-duds were either championship frees or league 1 purchases.Browne and McNair are a proven at championship level. 29 is not old. Fadz as an example improved in his mid thirties.
You want us to gamble on players that have never played in the championship. That’s fine but you need to have a balance.
We just need to trust the scouting system and club to make the best decisions on who we sign. As said above, Europe and wider is full of talented players and ones who hopefully come here can take us to another level. We can’t just focus on names that we know from clubs in a similar position to ourselves. There is a reason for them becoming available.
I predict the Godden replacement will be one of the first through the door, once the window opens.I really hope so, Godden is not the sort of player we need in our team these days, he’s not up to top half Championship level. We need to do a lot better than Tavares and Godden as our second striker if we want to make it into the prem.
We want consistency and it’s harder for younger players to achieve that. We absolutely need some of those characters in the squad. We signed Fadz for free in the summer before the league 1 title winning season after he left Burton.
Brentford went away from their model to sign Pontus Jansson to get a centre back with a lot of championship experience to help guide their young squad.
Free & no re-sale value doesn’t equal shit.
Indeed and I don't think any team gets promoted from this division without any of those sort of players. It's about having a balanced squad. We signed Fadz for free in the summer before the league 1 title winning season after he left Burton.

True true, but personally I’d prefer us to scout around a bit and pay £1-3 mil for a potential gem, take that small risk but also have the potential for a big resale like Hamer, Vik, Van Ewijk, Sakamoto etc than not take the risk and be stuck with someone on high wages and no resale value, just my personal preference. But yeah completely agree we do need some experience. We signed Fadz for free in the summer before the league 1 title winning season after he left Burton.

Why wait for the window to open if he is gonna use the door though?I predict the Godden replacement will be one of the first through the door, once the window opens.
Touche! Why wait for the window to open if he is gonna use the door though?
Makes no sense.
I keep reading on here that we need to make signings with experience, Sheaf, Eccles and Bidwell must have played over 300 games between them, how many games to you have to play before you become experienced

Our highest ever sale (Vik) was essentially signed from a fellow championship club (Swansea) so your point is somewhat moot.True true, but personally I’d prefer us to scout around a bit and pay £1-3 mil for a potential gem, take that small risk but also have the potential for a big resale like Hamer, Vik, Van Ewijk, Sakamoto etc than not take the risk and be stuck with someone on high wages and no resale value, just my personal preference. Okay fair enough, maybe not Vik then (although I thought he was on loan there from Brighton?), but the point still stands for the others mentioned. Our highest ever sale (Vik) was essentially signed from a fellow championship club (Swansea) so your point is somewhat moot.
Dedication yes boredom yes but I'm also in America at the momentT&B getting the news hot off the press and delivering it to us at 4:35am, love the dedication
Because Robins obviously didn’t want him .Jarne Steuckers, someone I previously wanted here, has just moved to KRC Genk for 800k Euros release clause! An incredibly low fee for that quality of player makes me wonder why we didn't go in.
I mean I agree with you on the older free transfers, I’d bring one in maybe (e.g. Browne) but no more than one.Okay fair enough, maybe not Vik then (although I thought he was on loan there from Brighton?), but the point still stands for the others mentioned.
Some cracking players come from down the leagues in this country. One of the benefits of having well supported, professional lower leagues. In other countries players who can't immediately compete in the top 2 or 3 divisions likely bow out early just to make a living, which is a shame. Love English football (minus the blood sucking Prem.)I mean I agree with you on the older free transfers, I’d bring one in maybe (e.g. Browne) but no more than one.
I don’t mind us bringing in younger players from domestic leagues though.

If they think he'd stir up a fuss they wouldn't sign him would they? What they expect from him and the role they would want him to play would be pretty basic first conversation stuff.I'd honestly rather us sign Jamal Lowe on a free for that last forward spot (presumably) than spunk quid on someone like Ntelo who might stir up a fuss playing behind Simms and presumably Wright.
Burrows for me at LB due to the EMC linkup. GK Marek Rodak if wages allow, CB Paddy McNair, Cam if we do go that route maybe Thierno BalloOhhh I see, makes sense then I appreciate your hot takes though, definitely some food for thought in some of these. Any ideas for LB, GK, CB or CAM?
Saw him run the show for Brighton in a cup match Vs FGR. Stood out with players like Mitoma, Ferguson, Undav, Lamptey and Colwill, sign him up!I really want us to throw our name in the hat for Steven Alzate on a free, think he'd be perfect for that Hamer role. Sheffield United interested.
I’m going McNair, Stamenic and Barron….based on what my mates said2 maybe 3 signings expected next week
The St Truiden coach just joined Genk, so Steuckers has followed him there. Have to imagine there were more than just one team interested at that price - absolute bargain for such a creative player.Jarne Steuckers, someone I previously wanted here, has just moved to KRC Genk for 800k Euros release clause! An incredibly low fee for that quality of player makes me wonder why we didn't go in.
Who is Barron?I’m going McNair, Stamenic and Barron….based on what my mates said
