Browne and McNair are a proven at championship level. 29 is not old. Fadz as an example improved in his mid thirties.
You want us to gamble on players that have never played in the championship. That’s fine but you need to have a balance.
Yeah very true, definitely a balance to be struck and I’m not completely against Browne or McNair but I just look at our transfers from last season, all the semi-duds were either championship frees or league 1 purchases.
I think we’ve tried that route in the past and it’s been okay but personally I believe that to get to the prem we need real quality and not players from teams that have tried and tried again to get into the prem. Players like Gnoto who came from the Swiss league, unheard of but a great signing for Leeds (different position and lacking experience I know but just an example of a gamble that really paid off).

We just need to trust the scouting system and club to make the best decisions on who we sign. As said above, Europe and wider is full of talented players and ones who hopefully come here can take us to another level. We can’t just focus on names that we know from clubs in a similar position to ourselves. There is a reason for them becoming available.

Couldn’t agree more, I know some people massively disagree but I think you’ve summed it perfectly when you say “we can’t just focus on names that we know from clubs in a similar position to ourselves”. We’ve got to do something different and go above and beyond if we want to better ourselves against teams in a similar position.

We have a limit on wages which is why O'Hare will almost certainly leave. That also means we possibly can't get more experienced Championship players to join us, as they can earn a lot more elsewhere. The relegated clubs and those funded by deep pockets like Stoke and Hull can probably outbid us if they want (within the FFP rules). DK says we must remain sustainable so if experienced players are offered more elsewhere we may miss out. Surprised Preston can outbid us wages wise.

I really hope so, Godden is not the sort of player we need in our team these days, he’s not up to top half Championship level. We need to do a lot better than Tavares and Godden as our second striker if we want to make it into the prem.
I predict the Godden replacement will be one of the first through the door, once the window opens.

We signed Fadz for free in the summer before the league 1 title winning season after he left Burton.

Brentford went away from their model to sign Pontus Jansson to get a centre back with a lot of championship experience to help guide their young squad.

Free & no re-sale value doesn’t equal shit.

We want consistency and it’s harder for younger players to achieve that. We absolutely need some of those characters in the squad.

Indeed and I don't think any team gets promoted from this division without any of those sort of players. It's about having a balanced squad.

True true, but personally I’d prefer us to scout around a bit and pay £1-3 mil for a potential gem, take that small risk but also have the potential for a big resale like Hamer, Vik, Van Ewijk, Sakamoto etc than not take the risk and be stuck with someone on high wages and no resale value, just my personal preference. But yeah completely agree we do need some experience.

I keep reading on here that we need to make signings with experience, Sheaf, Eccles and Bidwell must have played over 300 games between them, how many games to you have to play before you become experienced

And I suppose not all experienced players are leaders, it’s leaders that we need not necessarily just experience. It’s possible for a player that’s not played for 8+ years to have leadership, just because someone is 24/25/26 etc doesn’t mean they don’t have leadership skills.

Also every player we have is more experienced than before and they had the experience of the semi final.

Our highest ever sale (Vik) was essentially signed from a fellow championship club (Swansea) so your point is somewhat moot.

I really want us to throw our name in the hat for Steven Alzate on a free, think he'd be perfect for that Hamer role. Sheffield United interested.

Okay fair enough, maybe not Vik then (although I thought he was on loan there from Brighton?), but the point still stands for the others mentioned.

I'd honestly rather us sign Jamal Lowe on a free for that last forward spot (presumably) than spunk quid on someone like Ntelo who might stir up a fuss playing behind Simms and presumably Wright.

I mean I agree with you on the older free transfers, I’d bring one in maybe (e.g. Browne) but no more than one.

I don’t mind us bringing in younger players from domestic leagues though.
Some cracking players come from down the leagues in this country. One of the benefits of having well supported, professional lower leagues. In other countries players who can't immediately compete in the top 2 or 3 divisions likely bow out early just to make a living, which is a shame. Love English football (minus the blood sucking Prem.)

If they think he'd stir up a fuss they wouldn't sign him would they? What they expect from him and the role they would want him to play would be pretty basic first conversation stuff.

Saw him run the show for Brighton in a cup match Vs FGR. Stood out with players like Mitoma, Ferguson, Undav, Lamptey and Colwill, sign him up!

Just point at how we fixed Viks career

Jarne Steuckers, someone I previously wanted here, has just moved to KRC Genk for 800k Euros release clause! An incredibly low fee for that quality of player makes me wonder why we didn't go in.
The St Truiden coach just joined Genk, so Steuckers has followed him there. Have to imagine there were more than just one team interested at that price - absolute bargain for such a creative player.
