One positive (I think?!) is that Sunday's game is in Gelsenkirchen (where we played Serbia) and it was easily the best of the playing surfaces of the 3 games we've played. Only caveat is that I've not kept tabs as to whether the pitch has 'held up' from other games since.

At least it's halfway home for either team.
But especially for the Dutch!

Despite the negativity I feel a strange confidence about reaching atleast the semi final

Same, I'm fully expecting England to win the next two to get hopes up and then heartbreak in the semis/final.
It's been poor so far, but I always seem to believe England will pull through somehow

So it’s Netherlands then?

It's dependent on other results in Group E and F.
This was from the BBC

Data Analysts Nielsen Gracenote have the likelihood of England's opponents as:
  • 61% Netherlands
  • 16% Slovakia
  • 11% Ukraine
  • 8% Romania
  • 4% Belgium

Yes unfortunately , got caught up in the hype and spoke too soon

Like to add that from January after this post his form dropped dramatically , he's definitely got alot to work on But he's young

But yes talk of an all timer was pretty stupid

You haven't said anything wrong there or got caught in the hype.

He's already a phenomenonal player, one of the best in the world.

If was was the only one playing poorly then there'd be no issue criticising him. But the fact that he, Foden, Rice, Kane suddenly look like cloggers is a reflection on one man only.

We won’t beat them all

Part of the issue. He’s played around 100 games as a 19/20 year old in the last 2 years. He’ll be burnt out by 28.
Is indeed the danger. Assuming he keeps going, his peak tournaments are still four, six, eight years away.
Exactly. Plus this season for the biggest club in the world and only finished at the start of June, had a week off and straight into camp. Im also worried about burn out, especially after starting men’s football at 16

Good point. Happened to Rooney and the same thing will likely happen to Mbappe in a few years. Once his biggest asset (pace) will falter, he'll become an ineffective footballer.
Think we'll see this happen more and more as players get pushed into the spotlight at ever younger ages such as Yamal, Endrick, etc.

Well, with France being on the other side of the draw we really ought to be making the final roster if there are no more surprises in the group.

My big hope is that we’ll get a big result against the Dutch, people get the ‘Southgate you’re the one’ song going and the narrative around the team changes.

All we need is a good result and performance in the Ro16 and the groups will be forgotten.

Not sure I can see it happening though.

This is the perfect encapsulation of why I'm so fucked off with the performances.

There is two of the best players in world football who had amazing seasons...and they're passing to the keeper more than each other.

Yeah, but that has to be successful passes hasn't it? I have seen Foden make many attempts. Sometimes the pass has been poor and sometimes it's been Kane at fault for not getting on the end of it or misreading the pass.

Like all stats they are open to interpretation.

Still not great though.

Love Foden, but we are not seeing the Foden we see at club level here.

Agreed. Thought he’s looked better last couple of games though. More involved. As has been said, its been getting so congested in the middle of the pitch (foden, trippier and Saka all cutting in, kane dropping deep, Bellingham in there as well) it’s been hard for players to get space to receive/give the ball in the danger areas

Like the one two he was looking for from Kane to get a shot away, commentator said it too long or whatever but I'm not so, Kane just didn't seem on the wavelength to me?
