But that is true of any part of our team. Midfield is probably our strongest position in terms of depth.

Apart from keeper and left back, we are strong in terms of first choice and deoth throughout the team. What we lack though anywhere in the team is an outstanding player like Hamer or Gyokeres. I see little point in buying more midfielders in particular unless they are truly outstanding. We will have a bloated and expensive squad on contracts which we can't get out of. Just look at the keeper and left back situation to see where that gets you.
We are very strong as regards first team but I'd argue about depth as regards quality. Yes we have numbers but I'm not sure we have enough depth in quality

How would our team look, if for arguments sake the following players are injured/suspended:

Sheaf
Torp
MVE
Thomas/Kitching

I’ve selected these players because they’ve all had issues with injuries/suspensions. All of sudden we’re looking short.

Andrews will not be a first team player, Allen is not a decent role player, nothing more and he will be gone this time next year.

A point I think you’re missing Herts is that the goal is Premiership promotion and then survival. That gulf is massive, we need to add more quality to get there and the games against the top teams in this league highlighted the gap in quality.

Pragmatically, we also need to plan for a future without Ben Sheaf because if we don’t look like going up in Jan, he’ll actively want a move imo.
It's ridiculous to sign players for the eventuality of an injury crisis like that. We can't afford a squad of that size and we would have so many dispirited players and poor morale.

Do you really think we are aiming all out for promotion? I am not convinced as we would have gone for it in January if so. Also the best way of doing so is to buy top quality not have a bloated squad of additional players no better than we already have.

I think you are writing Allen off prematurely btw. He was ill and injured last year but was a central figure in the team that got into the play offs. I think he will surprise a few next season.

If we can't afford it why are we actively seeking it though?
King has proved he's incredibly shrewd so I doubt he's gambling
And I don't get the argument that a bigger squad is unhealthy in fact I'd argue the complete opposite

If there's anything in it then I have full faith in Robins and his recruitment team. They haven't got much wrong, so I'm gonna assume this guy will be another superstar.

I think Andrews is more of an 8 or 10, could be wrong though

Andrews is a CM/box to box
Dausch is a CF/SS that tends to play in just behind a front man
Obikwu is a big strong ST

Judging from Robins comments and the little I’ve seen of them, I have high hopes for all 3, however I’d say this year is definitely a step too far for being regularly involved and getting minutes in the Championship, barring a big injury crisis.

I don’t think Allen will have much of a look in next season but he’s been really reliable for us in the last couple of seasons when he’s played, particularly 22-23. Also remember when we were playing absolutely shite at the start of last season and he came back in for QPR away. Was absolutely fantastic that day. A player who has improved a lot since he first came to us

Looks good on paper, but can't help thinking that another CM player may see the end of Sheaf 😱

Can see what you're saying. But our fanbase think Allen is going and Palmer isn't good enough.

So if they're to be believed, we need some others coming in.

I see Palmer now as an option from the bench when the 433 isn't working, to allow a simple change allowing us to revert to playing with a number 10, don't really see as a starter in a 433, whereas Allen could start of required and do an adequate job, he isn't a world beater but is solid

Agree, I think we'll keep Palmer as an option to allow us to do that.

Allen is cheap, reliable and happy to be 5th/6th choice in midfield. Hes been here 5 years, knows the system and what the gaffer wants from him. Hes one of the most experienced in the squad, we would get little to no money for him what’s the point in moving him on?
He was openly telling everyone at the End of Season Awards that he's been told he can move on.

We've seen enough of Palmer's game to know he won't track back or harry . He isn't a DM at championship level
You sure you don't mean Lati?

This notion that still exists that Palmer doesn't 'harry' is nonsense. He is one of our best pressing players. He may not be running constantly like O'Hare but uses his energy intelligently. Palmer is one of our most aggressive midfield players.

I bet @BlueSkiesForever jizzed in his pants seeing this

Surprisingly not tbh, I didn’t want to say anything because I don’t feel like I really know enough about the bloke but I’m not fully convinced about him yet. There’s limited highlight reels of him and from what I’ve seen it seems to be only around 10 repeated clips of him scoring low strikes along the ground into a corner which obviously the keeper isn’t going to save. He’s made a few decent assists from the clips I saw and he definitely looks quick (so I’m not saying he’s shit), I just haven’t seen enough to be like “wow, he’s got everything”.

I’ve no idea what the absolute best stats are to use but someone on here recommended FotMob and I’ve been using that recently (?), if you look at his record game by game on there it’s very iffy. One game he’s rated 7.6 and the next he’s rated 5.2, coupled with what fifa say his stats are (which no one likes but I personally find it be semi-accurate), for me I’m sitting on the fence 🤷🏻‍♂️

Edit: thought this was the Konigsdorffer thread, just realised it’s the Bernede thread 😂 So the above is my view on Konigsdorffer. As for Bernede, I’m even more on the fence, can’t find many highlight reels from recent seasons but the ones I’ve seen look alright. The stats for him are a bit better than Konigsdorffer imo but again doesn’t blow me away. I’m just loving sitting on the fence atm 😂

Tea & Busquets thinks he will be a great signing

Surely playing a player 90mins Saturday, 45 mins Tuesday, 70 minutes Saturday.
Will avoid an injury crisis, we have expected too many players to play 90 Sat, 90 Tues, 90 Sat.
