Dream scenario:
Burroughs and Obikwu impress enough in pre-season to stay until at least Jan as cover off the bench. Burroughs is an 8 or 10 by trade (played there in the Academy), he shows during pre-season he's good enough to cover at RB as well. Leaves Latibeaudiere to focus on CB where I think he's decent. Obikwu backing up Simms and Wright through the middle.
Palmer steps up and proves he can be an 8-10 hybrid off the bench. Let him leave in Jan or the Summer if he doesn't. Eccles is allowed to focus on being more of an 8. We sign a young player that's a pure no. 6 to backup and eventually replace Sheaf. Allen can be let go. Andrews and Dausch on loans. Tavares stays as super sub till June. Leaves cash for new no. 6.

This. Need a steadying influence in defence at times. Even if it diverts from the model a bit, an experienced stopper would add value especially when trying to close out games.
CM - a '6' type that can break up opposition attacks, recycle and get us on the transition.
I'd rather try to give Obiku/Deutsch mins off the bench initially. If it doesn't work then look for a Premier half season loan in Jan. Admit this is a gamble though.

Priority order for me would be a striker, centre mid then left/right back or a right winger. But get those first two in and our squad looks fantastic IMO.

Don’t get the CB requirement, we have four and we play with two. We also have a perfect balance of two left and two right footers. The experience req is bit a red herring in my view. They all have another year in the Championship behind them, experience doesn’t equal better and bringing another in is a waste of wages.
Also don’t get the RB ask. Burroughs looked good enough two years ago and he’s 23 now, he isn’t a young hot prospect. Get him as understudy, give him a confidence boost and he’ll be a good Championship full back.

Don’t agree, I think Thomas is very good, Binks and Kitching have the potential to be and Lati is a decent squad player.

I think RB we have enough options of MVE isn’t available. If Burroughs stays he would be ok, Lati, Eccles worse case can also play there if needed.

If Allen is cover for Sheaf we are in deep shit. So CM Is definitely a priority.

I said very good? Binks and Kitching are both good enough and have the potential to be standout at this level. Lati won’t be playing 20 games at CB unless Thomas has a big injury.

I really can't see Allen getting much game time. If EMC isn't on the wing he'll be competing for the no10 position and I'm sure he and Palmer will be pushing Rudoni for the shirt.

I don't think we are far off at all. Probably need a replacement for Godden and maybe some competition at RB. I think signings anywhere else on the pitch are likely to be about upgrading on what we have as our depth looks relatively good now (assuming Andrews, Burroughs, Rodriguez etc are good enough to be decent squad players)

A senior right sided centre back and a RB would be next. A LB who is better than JDS would also be welcome but we probably won't stretch to that.

Although Robins never gives a lot away its going to be interesting to hear his comments on the status of the current squad. Im sure he wants a couple more in before the big kick off with a FW being priority, but can see more signings happening.
Im sure he and Doug have eyes on a few others outside what we see as needed. And also have decisions to make on a few of our own, but i like the signings so far and am confident the improvement will keep happening.

The reason we need an additional centre back with experience is we need a natural leader there who doesn’t make many mistakes can talk them through a game and close it off at the end. Agree all 4 are improving but all 4 are capable of giving silly goals away.
Last season we conceded 28% more goals than in 22/23. That was the main reason we finished 5th in 22/23 and 9th 23/24. Doesn’t matter what standard you play at, if you don’t concede many you will generally be up towards the top of your league. This season we are also going to have a very inexperienced keeper as well albeit hopefully better than Wilson and Collins. On their day they may all be good enough but at this stage of their career tend to make mistakes that are costly.

Wright's better on the left & cannibalising other positions got us in trouble last year. It's certainly an option but I'd prefer a proper backup.
Binks looked good last year but just couldn't get the minutes. Kitching was unlucky at times with the red cards, and has potential imo, he is aggressive off the ball and looks good on the ball.
Better keeper behind them, more settled back four and a bit more protection from midfield and we're fine.

Of course there isn't concrete evidence but you can say that for a lot of our players.
Young and inexperienced maybe but I trust our scouting team given our recent signings.
Our midfield will be playing flatter which I believe will give us more protection.
And when Wright gets tired or injured we then do what ?

but it was a lack of options out wide that killed us last season. We've fixed that. Sakamoto, Wright, Raphael, EMC.
and moving Wright across won't be the same as last year. EMC coming in isn't Palmer or O'Hare shoved out wide.
I'm not against adding someone through the middle but folks talking like we 'have to' add someone there is what I don't get.

You accept we'll have a drop-off in standard in that position for a bit. I don't think a squad that's three players deep with specialists in every position and no drop-off in standard is realistic. If Wright and Simms are both injured at the same time for more than a game or two, it'll be sh*t but that's life sometimes.

In a 50 game season, it’s just not tenable to have only 2 strikers. Wright covers two positions too.
Last season, we couldn’t go the distance because too many players had played too many minutes. The team was visibly deteriorating in energy levels from March onwards.
This league is too unrelenting to have gaps in your squad.

The squad depth is getting there. Still not sure we have enough first 11 quality.
I hope Dovin is quality and has enough aggression about him to help steady the defence.
The other question is whether MR quickly establishes his best 11 and formation. Last season was a bit of a mess early on.
