always funny when a big spender fails.

They helped us when we were homeless… I don’t wish ill on a club that helped us through hard times

Everything I've heard about Jay Stansfield would imply he's a good lad. He is the son of an Exeter City legend Adam Stansfield and is very much idolised there - he returned there on loan from Fulham. Exeter are a really great family run club with the right ideals.Part of the new selection process is on personality and attitude. If he's got a bad attitude we won't be signing him.
Agree with this. I think signing another decent striker could prove really difficult. Even without the fact they will likely cost decent money, I'm not sure we are that attractive for a striker at the minute given that we have two big money strikers who will likely start ahead of them.Everything I've heard about Jay Stansfield would imply he's a good lad. All that said - absolutely no way a player like him would move to a Championship club without a prospect of playing almost every game - this makes no sense for Coventry or Stansfield.
We might get someone young and cocky given the high likelihood of Simms/Wright moving on next season if we don't go up. But you do have to look at the amount of money we would have to spend, the amount of playing time we can offer and ask if we are really going to do better than Tavares/Obukwu.Agree with this. I expect we might have to target the foreign market.
Possibly a prem loan where he won’t have the pressure of being the main source of goals but will still get a good amount of mins. Will lankshear from Spurs would be nice.Agree with this. I wonder if a deeper squad, and an ability to change up systems mid-match as a result, will change how MR uses the bench.I think we have a much greater chance of securing of foreign player with potential who wants a crack at the English market than a Premier League loan. Which premier club in their right mind sends a talented young striker to play 3rd fiddle as a sub and to a manager who is proven to be cautious in making subs.
After the amount of comments on the Dovin thread the rumor mill has gone quiet lol I need something new haha Ugbo is a decent striker and would give us pace up front (is that is true he was at Ryton) I know he did well at Wednesday and scored some vital goals for themSomeone on Twiter saying Ike Ugbo was at Ryton today. Most likely BS but worth posting for the evenings entertainment
He was at Chelsea as a youth player, and probably knows half our squad, so I'd say the rumour is almost definitely a goer even if AV has left the building.Someone on Twiter saying Ike Ugbo was at Ryton today. Most likely BS but worth posting for the evenings entertainment
I knew someone connected to Exeter who told me Stansfield's wages whilst he was on loan there from Fulham (obviously what Fulham were paying him, not Exeter). Although I can't remember exactly (I have a number in my head but not confident, so don't want to get it wrong), they were very high - and this was two years ago. It was too rich for most Championship clubs blood.
Can't imagine he'd be happy taking a pay cut when there will be decent loan offers on the table. I just can't see him going to Brum.
Edit: I'm sure someone less lazy than me will probably look them up somewhere, but even then - I usually don't believe what is online.
I mean thats just a lie isnt it?Never heard of him
The short answer to your rhetorical question is: yes!We might get someone young and cocky given the high likelihood of Simms/Wright moving on next season if we don't go up. Would be perfect but looks like he will end up at WednesdaySomeone on Twiter saying Ike Ugbo was at Ryton today. Most likely BS but worth posting for the evenings entertainment
It wasn't rhetorical - although it also wasn't directed at us - more hypothetical for Robins etc who will have more of an idea what budgets are like, who is willing to come, where Tavares is at, Obikwu's ceiling and whether a loan would be best for him.The short answer to your rhetorical question is: yes!
Tavares barely plays as a striker for us and Obikwu has experience playing in L2 only. We’ll need another striker for sure. It does not serve either player’s development to be a bit part player in our setup because we can’t trust them to perform. Both players are raw.
We need players to be pushing on the starters all the way. Tavares and Obikwu just aren’t pushing Wright, Simms, EMC and Sakamoto for a starting berth. Imagine a scenario where Simms or Wright gets injured and there’s no cover for them - it would be negligent.

You are living things out in an ideal world. The competition you are trying to create is easier said than done.
However bad luck with injuries is a reality; but they could hit any section of the squad..
I’d be stunned if we weren’t actively working on another striker.Nope, this is a pragmatic consideration of the state of our team and the development of younger players.
Robins will not go into this season without a 3rd senior striker. Why else would let Sodden go? Even now, Godden would be a better option than both Tavares and Obikwu.
Simms and Wright are both starters. Logistically, if no senior striker is brought in, one of those players will need to play 90m every game for 48+ games. That just isn’t feasible and if last season didn’t demonstrate the importance of squad depth, nothing will.
Sakamoto being our only RW and how his injury impacted the team and tactics is a great example of my point. Striker is the one position where you can’t afford to be short on quality and numbers.
I'm hoping a new coaching team may help with the way we use subs
Robins was crystal clear throughout last season on the need to add both quantity and quality to the team. He also made the point that our squad depth (2023/24) was ‘net’ 3 players short of the 2022/23 season (it was 3 or 4 in the original quote before we brought in Torp).I’d be stunned if we weren’t actively working on another striker.
We won’t bring in a LB without one leaving, which is unlikely. If we want to go for autos or anything like top four, we need another five I reckon. The ones everyone has mentioned CM ST CB RB LB. And the CM CB and LB would need to be improvements on what we’ve got in the first team.
I’m not sure that amount of money is available. But we have been linked with all of those positions this summer so who knows.
Would not mind another right winger at all.
I consider RBR and Tatsu our only true right wingers and I'm not sure if RBR is good enough.Do we need 7 players who can play there?
Well robins disagreesI consider RBR and Tatsu our only true right wingers and I'm not sure if RBR is good enough.
