King could perhaps look at what tends to happen when a team is stacked full of young prospects-you suffer from inconsistency and a bit more mental fragility.
You won't win anything with kids
Robins wouldn't be revisiting it if he didn't think it would help us definitely
This is the frustration isn't it. Alongside the complete aversion to loans
For me it's where it shows King is new to football and his understanding of it. It's all well and good having a model, and we're all glad we have it. But you can't treat a football club the same as other business, because not having experience or borrowed quality will mean (in my view) you won't get the desired outcome
Yes, must remember the primary function of transfer policy is enabling the team to win football matches not potential long term profit on sales
I think Williams needs a whole load of realism to hit him, he was earning a fortune and seemingly very unprofessional and now it is biting him on the arse as anybody who thinks of offering anywhere will speak to other people that have been around him.If only Brandon Williams wasent such a feckless twat could have been perfect for us on a free.
This is a concern at the back of my mind also, if this season flops will we lose a lot of transfer value in Simms and Wright are the main two I'm thinking of.Players in a winning side also tend to go for more.

Lies !This is James stats compared with Eccles and Sheaf last season:

As you can see, our two players compare favourably on most metrics
As opposed to signing who?Signing Matty James on a free in 2024
That Man Utd side still had some leadership in it. We have at best got Twitching and Thomas. Are you saying you win nothing with kids?
That experience and borrowed quality often improve your own assets immeasurably tooThis is the frustration isn't it. Alongside the complete aversion to loans

Well exactly, no one, because we fucked it in the actual transfer window. As opposed to signing who?
James would be brought in on a 4th choice basis. Which is pretty impressive. Eccles in particular would thrive having James alongside him rather than Torp imo, and vice versa. This is James stats compared with Eccles and Sheaf last season:

When he plays, he’s playing on average 82 mpg, Eccles is playing 73 mpg.
That's better than a Prius!
It’s a twin objective ….improve the playing squad and give the club playing assets that make us sustainable.Yes, must remember the primary function of transfer policy is enabling the team to win football matches not potential long term profit on sales
That all sounds quite believable to me. It also infers of tension between DK and MR which adds fuel to the unsubstantiated rumours I have heard of the two of them having a 'falling out' last week.Actually got some solid info on this
Was explored back in July but of course we had other targets
First contact made Thursday after it became clear Kasey was leaving, James is keen, would love to come back and play in front of Cov fans as didnt during Covid. Still speaks regularly to Sheaf and Eccles.
Doesn't want silly money, we would be looking around 12 -15 a week, 1 year deal with another in clubs favour
Robins is very keen and wants to get it done, Doug blocked it as he "doesn't fit the model".
The poor performance of Saturday happened, Robins has stated again he wants him. James still keen, kept himself fit and is ready to go.
Big test for me this I feel. If James comes in it shows Robins really does still hold the reins.
If he doesnt, that would point to Doug being the man with more say on transfers than Robins
In my view anyway. I'm sure il be told I hate Doug etc

It depends what you consider success….Well exactly, no one, because we fucked it in the actual transfer window.
I wouldn’t be opposed to it now but it’s pretty much an admission of failure by the recruitment team.
And it wasn't for the want of tryingIt depends what you consider success….
we strengthened our Keeper, out wide on both flanks, the striking options and made Binks perm.
We didn’t sell any of our key players.
we managed to offload Godden and Palmer for fees.
That’s a good window, maybe even a very good window. If we had added a great number 6 or 8 that would have made it a brilliant window.
failing to land one target doesn’t make all other progress irrelevant …..
It’s a twin objective ….improve the playing squad and give the club playing assets that make us sustainable.
You can’t have the former without the latter
Genuinely hope that isn’t true.Actually got some solid info on this

Hence why I said twin ….. without the club being sustainable you can’t make progress on the playing side.Yes, hence why i said primary
GIMOC will be on shortly to confirmGenuinely hope that isn’t true.
I mean King was presumably willing to sign off on Browne who wouldn’t be a money spinner either, so would struggle to understand his aversion to this just on those grounds.Genuinely hope that isn’t true.
Agree with all of that as long as the experienced players contributed and added to the starting elevenI really like Doug's model, it reminds me of Crewe back in the day (Ashton, Hulse, Murphy, etc went for millions even then), it's even more savvy these days buying 'assets' and selling them on with add on's and bigger money, then going it again. He obviously timed it well and saw how well it went with Hamer and Vik. However, this approach only works when the potential you invest in actually develops. How do they do that? it's not just talent and working hard. They need an environment, staff, facilities and a team that they can perform in. The top teams have those experienced characters who push the talent on, inspire them, protect and look after them. There was a whole thread on Torp on this forum. who does he have in and around him on the pitch who can look after him and help him develop? A Matty James type player would be massive.
Just my view on it, I'd take a couple of 30+ players and create the right team environment.
