USSR invades Ukraine. (13 Viewers)

There's no evidence the Russians have transferred forces from other combat zones though, and Russian advances have picked up pace if anything in Donbass.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians have cobbled up a total of 1 heavy brigade for this escapade, with a mish-mash of armoured vehicles. It appears that the Ukrainian advances have stopped now and we will probably see them pushed out of Kursk Oblast over the next few weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they attempt another border raid or even another offense in the South. Tbf to Ukraine they have been written off by many who (including myself) didn't expect such a well planned assault.

That said, any similar moves are likely to fail, as did the latest attempt to land forces on the Kinburn Spit yesterday.

They are still advancing and it involves more than just one brigade.

This has been a composite operation, well planned and executed.

But it is a salient leading nowhere

Zaparozhe NPP on fire.

Zelensky is accusing Russia of setting it on fire, Russia accuses Ukr of hitting it with a drone.

It wouldn't be the first time Ukr has hit the NPP if this is the case. The cooling towers are a little way from the reactors so hopefully this won't escalate into chernobyl 2.0 but this is pretty fucked up.

Of concern, Russia has deliberately attacked the NPP previously and deliberately sabotaged it, in order to blame Ukraine.
Worrying but not imminently dangerous

Genuine question, what kind of force would be needed to take Kursk?

More than Ukraine can commit.

It isn’t just a land force of several brigades. It would require air support and more importantly, vast logistical support.

It creates a salient….essentially, a bulge in the front line. That then creates vulnerabilities, particularly on the flanks.

The other question: why does Ukraine need to take Kursk. Holding an urban area is incredibly difficult and would cause huge humanitarian problems.

The world knows that Russia is seeking genocide, that it has committed war crimes. Ukraine needs to avoid any accusation of the same because the information war is also critical

Getting a bit scary.

I suggest a big piss up tomorrow. If it does kick off, it might be your last chance

Playing out like the rumour suggested a couple of months ago. Sunak went for an early election because he didn't want to be seen as the man who took us into WW3

It feels impossible to know what the right thing to do even is at this stage
Indeed. Back down now and that is a red rag to a bull for Putin. He'd start ramping up plans to invade elsewhere cos no-one's got the balls to stop him.

It definitely is

Hmmm, hard to disagree that the US have caused a number of issues globally, however, in recent years Putins invaded crimea, invaded wider Ukraine, killed/poisoned people on U.K. soil, shot down civilian aircraft and killed any political opponents. He’s also been willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of his own citizens for his own ends, which to me, takes him to a totally different level

The guy just doesn’t give a shit and everyone’s just let him get away with it for way too long. I want to see a negotiated settlement to end the war and worried about escalation but he’s prayed on a weak responses in the last 15 years.

If there is to be a settlement that sees Ukraine surrender some territory, it should come with immediately admitting the rest of it to NATO as a safeguard against future invasion.

Since 2001 the USA has spent over 7 trillion in the middle east , it's helped create a refugee crisis which we are feeling today in Europe and is a massive cause of political anger , some of it was based on lies
They are funding israels crimes in gaza and have funded Ukraine to the tune of over 60 billion in their military efforts v Russia .

They are the world's biggest war criminals

Errr.. peace is the right thing , talk and negotiate a peace deal .

This war will never be won by Ukraine and as stated many many many times before could escalate further

What do you mean when you say “the war can’t be won”?

because it always seems to mean “Ukraine should capitulate and give Russia everything”. Which is not the same thing.

Ukraine can't win the war , they need to negotiate a peace deal

Its certainly an interesting framing.

So the United States didn't go to war on a lie in 2003 and haven't helped create a huge refugee crisis in the middle east by funding several other conflicts in that region ?

Please tell me your interesting take on that , please tell me how the united states aren't funding israels military actions in gaza

Which bit is interesting

So Russia can’t win war either? How will this peace deal come about do you think?

Strangely by Zelensky conceding he needs to negotiate a settlement rather than carry on pretending Russia will ever concede the territory already gained

It is a tricky one.

On one hand I don't see why Ukraine should negotiate anything other than the complete restoration of its pre-2014 borders. Bullies like Putin should always be stood up to.

On the other hand I don't think Ukraine is worth having a Nuclear war over
