Oggy lol.

I’m sorry, club legend but him and Clive HAVE to go. They got Weight mixed up with Sheaf the other night. They love a jinx too! They’re just awful to listen to, I’m sorry.

Oggy was a great servant, let’s leave it there.

I agree though, Aled’s CV doesn’t look good…
You got wright mixed up with weight….

YOU HAVE TO GO ! ;)

He took Wilson from a lower league reserve keeper to Championship team of the season.
We did basically just set up defensively to stop him having to do too much and hope our two superstars were good enough to win a game by themselves.

But I will accept that you could possibly suggest Wilson became a slightly better player.

He's an average Championship keeper now, he was nowhere near that level when he joined

And yes Dovin made a mistake, he expected their player to hit it properly and it was scuffed in, that happens sometimes.
He can't see it either, Latibeaudiere is right in front of it so he'd just see it appear bouncing over his head. He probably should do better, but it it looked worse than it was. Dovin will be our number one for a while as long as he keeps his head. When Wilson was brought back in, it was both because we needed a more vocal leader at the back, but also, and which seemed to be largely ignored by everyone, Robins said he wanted to protect him. We were conceding every game, he's a young keeper, it's fine to take him out the firing line and try keep his confidence up

Yeah, he has to react without really seeing the ball and gambles on their player hitting proper towards the corner.

You'll see loads of goals where the scorer scuffs it and it goes in because it doesn't go where the keeper expects it to, last night was just because of the bounce looked worse.

We did always moan about Oggy. We’ve never had a proper solid keeper under Robins or much at all since Coleman really.

Under Oggy, many of our keepers improved. Westwood, Murphy, RCC for a period…even Burge. He would’ve been able to pass on vital bits of his experience that Aled can’t.
Haha! Really? Oggy used to get slated on here. After all he did coach Lee Burge, one of the poorest keepers we've ever had. Dreadful.

Simon Moore - ruined him
Ben Wilson - hasn't exactly improved him
Brad Collins - hadnt exactly improved him
Oliver Dovin - looks a scared wreck
Odd.

I'd prefer Slade to him

Noddy Holder is getting on a bit and I'm not sure how much coaching experience he's got. We could go for Sweet or if we fancy going down the foreign route then The Osmonds.

Lee Burge for a start.
Burge was an academy goalkeeper that was thrust into it because we couldn’t sign anyone of real quality. My point atm is that we are signing goalkeepers for actual money and they are regressing.

Oggy continually had to make do with people like Burge, RCC or other free transfers that no one wanted. Westwood certainly got better, Murphy was good and RCC improved until he got ahead of himself. Oggy did just enough with Burge to help us get out of League Two.

Well, if Oggy was so great then he would have improved Burge, RCC et al regardless of whether they had been signed for cash or not. He didn't improve them. Oggy basically got the job because of who he was not because of his prowess as a coach.

4 keepers of a decent level, all end up bereft of confidence and talent

And the defence. Well. We all know how dog shit that is and he's responsible for that nowadays too

Bloks stealing a living and how he's never been put under review i don't know
Yet Adi is dispensed with and Lawrence walked!

I know this is probably a joke, but I hope people haven't forgotten just how unbelievably shit that man is as a manager.

Never before have I seen a man try and play 4-4-2 with 5 defenders and 4 strikers on the pitch.. WITH NO INJURIES. He didn't have to do it, he just did it.

Lampard would be a massive upgrade on that flower pot

No, not Lampard. He is one of those players who thinks he will be a good manager because he was a decent player. He's not. We've tried it before with Phil Neal, Terry Butcher, Gordon Strachan. All shite managers. We've moved on.

Not saying Lampard is a good manager by any means, but he'd be better than Slade was. It'd be a genuine achievement to be worse.

Goalkeepers are in a unique position. If they make a mistake, very often it ends with a goal being conceded. No other position has such responsibility. If a defender makes a mistake, then the keeper may be able to retrieve the situation. If a striker misses an opportunity he may well get the next one.
Bobby Gould threw a tantrum and dropped Randy Avramoivic after an error ( I think against Watford in the cup if I remember correctly but maybe wrong). He said publicly, that Avramovic would never play for CCFC again. He promoted a very young Perry Suckling and some say the pressure and constant playing of a young keeper ruined him. He went on to have a career in football but never made any team his own.
I guess the point I’m trying to make, is keepers more than any other position in my opinion need to be treated carefully, as once the confidence goes it can take a long time to get it back, if they ever do. Simon Moore, Mark Marosi being two I can think of but Simon apparently had personal problems which affected him. Mark had the horrendous injury. But the result was the same they both lost their confidence.

Would love us to bring in Westwood as our GK coach, currently GK coach at Crewe and also registered as a player. The only issue is he probably still lives in Manchester and wouldn’t want to travel too far.

Most managers were decent players, including Mark Robins

but very few top players have made decent managers even for a limited period (Pep is probably the exception that proves the rule) with many trying
England world cup winners
England golden generation

sometimes they get handed a dream job straight away eg ZZ ( where it would be harder to fail) but in terms of over performing, I struggle to find a top ranked player who has over performed in a management role at what ever level, in the same way you would argue people like Robins . potter, Howe, Emery, Mourinho, klopp etc have done

it is the same in the workplace, there are people who are brilliant at their job, but are wank as managers and vice versa

True
But a lot of very good players make poor managers. Lampard is one. Mark Hughes is another.

Yes.
Possibly Rooney as well, but I suppose the jury is still out on him.
The main issue is these players trade on their name. They will get jobs over more competent managers just because of who they are. It has always happened and I guess it always will.
