Interesting that one of the most reliable US pollsters has Harris up by 3 in Iowa, which has been solidly Trump for two elections. If that’s anywhere near accurate he has a big problem.

I certainly hope so. As I have said before, I am not a fan of Harris, but Trump is talking in a very dangerous manner at the moment. Talking in terms of America being invaded and an occupied nation.

Very worrying, some of his rhetoric right now .

It seems from this and other reliable polling that women have reacted strongly to what he’s done on abortion and they tend to vote in higher numbers than men. Could be that it’s this issue which will cost him the election.

Women have the right to decide what they do with their own bodies.

It's just that religion is such a huge thing in the US isn't it and a lot of that is in conflict with abortion and against their creed

Not just that. Their system of checks and balances is fundamentally flawed when the ultimate arbiter (the supreme court) is itself a political operation. A loaded conservative Supreme Court decided the abortion issue - with judges specifically added for their known anti-abortion stance.

Yes, very true.

There seems to be some confusion on the Abortion issue.

Even Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought it was not a Federal issue, and that was all that was confirmed by the Supreme Court.

Now it could be but that would require a Federal Law and for Congress to do something.

Where I am there is no limit, you can go the whole 9 months, other States do have limits, California permits abortions up until the point of fetal viability, which is usually around 24–26 weeks into a pregnancy. So California limits women's right to decide.

The Supreme Court have made no ruling on whether Abortion is legal or not. They just said it was not for the Feds to decide.

Leaving it open for states to make barbaric laws

The same argument was once made to justify continued slavery in the South.

Unfortunately that’s how the US works currently.

Ps we all know women should have the right to choose (I can’t believe we’re still even having the convo). The US is a strange mix/place though
The court ruling allows a state government to control what a woman does with her body, to the extent of prosecuting them if they even try to seek an abortion in another state.

As mentioned most legal systems have restrictions

The UK does

if you want it to be a Federal issue, then it has to be an ammendment

there are EU countries that are highly restrictive but they seem to get a pass

There are restrictions and then there's women getting raped and forced to carry the baby to term. Perhaps an amendment on the issue is what's needed in the US, but even when the court ruled against segregation in schools, some states still took decades to adhere to it.

States' rights is most often trotted out to try and defend the indefensible, virtually always in deeply conservative states. In any case, what Trump did in stacking the court on this issue will be what costs him the election, if he loses.

It is these kinds of issues that makes me happy we live in a country with an uncodified constitution (due to parliamentary sovereignty)

The whole thing is a nonsense, after all easy enough to jump in a car, on a plane, it would be like Oxfordshire having a restriction and Berkshire saying all the way to 9 months.

But them this is not the only example I can think of of illogicalities.

EU is sort of similar with FoM.

Either way returning to the election, hopefully you voted regardless of who it's for!
