I've signed it!
It's pointless like you say but its a good alternative to voicing opinion in a singular non combative way. It might only be the beginning of Labour's term but working in a small private company I'm feeling well and truely shafted at the moment. Honestly we're being treated as idiots, did they really we're that stupid to think a penny off a pint would appease us, not getting the fact that min wage, NI and rising energy costs would have us paying more for everything whilst paying more for shoddy public services.
The next step will be petition to the king which may make Starmer take a look at how he's doing things.

Genuine question: is this the first election you’ve voted in?

No ! Actually I'm 64 years of age, worked 41 years without one day off, now I'm struggling with cancer short term life prognosis and can't get 1 penny of my contributions in NI over that time other that stat. sick pay.The small amount of private pension they will tax a way more than the rebate I've received. I've seen a lot in my time, voted for all party's at different elections. I was involved in the anti apartheid movement in the 80's and welcomed immigration back then.
I was optimistic at the change, not expecting to much to quick but.....
Free speech is on the way out
Immigration out of control
Failing public services rewarded with pay awards and increased costs
I could go on and on......
Opps a bit more than you asked for

I don't like this Labour government so far as much as the next man, but I know you like statistics about the popular mandate.

The petition has been signed by 1.66% of voters, it's an irrelevance
over 1.5 million now without a single mention on BBC news yet. Up to 200k for Palestine, Tommy Robinson and LGBT+ etc demo's(for fairness and reference)= Headline news

The revoke Brexit petition got like 7m signatures so presumably you lads think we should still be in the EU if petitions hold such weight.

Really sorry about your health problems.
Totally agree with the three government issues you have identified.

That’s a really condescending and patronising post,

Im just watching a Channel 5 documentary about the winter of discontent. Good god Callaghan was an arsehole and Starmer is shaping up to be as bad.

To be fair somebody spending 30 seconds pressing a few buttons online is much less of a protest than travelling to somewhere to take part in a demo

It is quite hilarious mind that all the types of people this hapless berk and his band of idiots try to appease with this sort of distraction rubbish are no doubt signing and sharing that petition
Starmer wrote: “In the coming months, Mail on Sunday readers will see even more sweeping changes. Because make no mistake, we will get to grips with the bulging benefits bill blighting our society.

“Don’t get me wrong – we will crack down hard on anyone who tries to game the system, to tackle fraud so we can take cash straight from the banks of fraudsters.

“There will be a zero-tolerance approach to these criminals. My pledge to Mail on Sunday readers is this: I will grip this problem once and for all.”

Thanks,
I shouldn't have but my health in the post but to ask if I'd ever voted before came across as a little condescending so felt it necessary to put a few personal things about me and why I might voice an opinion with my vote.
I've received fantastic service at UHCW by the doctors and nurses treating me and they deserve all the rewards they get. However they are of the same opinion as me in that areas are failing miserably and by instantly throwing money because of pressure from unions isn't going to fix issues.I share this opinion with other public sector costs.
I support a black family in central Africa a little( I call them black because they call themselves Black ) they call me white because I happen to be white. If I could afford to support them here I would but I wouldn't want them here for others to pay for them. Its my choice. They earn £50 per month and I top that up. They are safe, happy and greatful for the little I do. It would cost taxpayers ££££ to have them here at our cost of living.
My issues are pretty much clarified in the above regards my thoughts on free speech and immigration.
As well as this not being my 1st election I was educated and gained a degree in mechanical engineering and currently have no mental health issues ie. alzheimers etc.:):):unsure:

I don’t think you could. Free speech law hasn’t changed since the election, immigration is about the same too.

Literally all that’s changed so far is the government. I think you’ve been spending too much time on social media if you think the sky has fallen.

Another SDS sufferer, half this stuff isn’t even real. Was this how Remainers looked because seriously I get it now. If we had Remoaners, may I propose Tearies?

Which half do you consider not to be real?

Huge difference with the Brexit referendum is that there was a genuine mandate, over half votes cast for leave. Labour doesn’t have a popular mandate for anything in reality.

Never here two tier Kier needs to wake up and smell the coffee,

Ahh Daniel Hannan, the man who is spectacularly wrong about everything. Some highlights of his include:

No one will die from COVID

Brexit will result in Hoxton becoming the software capital of the world by 2025

Kwarteng's budget was the greatest budget of all time

I know you like using this line, but they quite literally do have a mandate. A big one at that.

Mandate
noun
the authority to carry out a policy, regarded as given by the electorate to a party or candidate that wins an election.

1,917,000 signatories and still nof mentioned on the BBC website, otherwise known as the Labour Party Press Office.

It’s an online poll that people have been actively encouraging people from other countries to sign. Why do you think it’s newsworthy?

Would be very funny if EU countries crack down on immigration and Brexit Britain doesn’t.

Not really though as it’s likely to mean Reforms vote increasing. People’s genuine concerns about uncontrolled immigration have been ignored for years (looking at various governments actions, not words). Countries across Europe have shifted to the right because of it. If Labour aren’t seen to get a grip of it, I’d unfortunately expect similar to happen here.

More funny in that we bomb our economy with the justification that’s it’s the only way to reduce immigration, not only does immigration then increase but EU countries drive it below zero without leaving.

I think everyone has shifted right on this TBH (not going to get into how open borders are a liberal not socialist position again). Starmer seems to be actually taking it seriously whereas Sunak focused on the boats but maybe was a little naive to think that letting in thousands of non white legal immigrants at the same time wouldn’t impact feelings on that. Illegal immigrants are bad in theory but I suspect what most anti immigration people want is to deal with fewer people with starkly different cultures or poor English in their day to day lives. On that metric Brexit has been a disaster.

That really is a laughable statement.

The Director General of the BBC is Tim Davie, ex Tory election candidate.

Sir Robbie Gibb former director of communications for, and knighted by, Theresa May is the Head of England.

In August 2022, former BBC presenter Emily Maitlis stated that Gibb was an "active agent of the Conservative party" who played a significant role in determining the nature of the corporation's news output.[24][25] A freedom of information request to the BBC for " communications where he [Gibb] has sought to reprimand after a broadcast or article he disagreed with, educate BBC staff on impartiality, or be informed of output before its publication" has been refused by the BBC on the grounds of cost. The refusal came in April 2023, three-and-a-half months after the initial request.[26]

I agree. There was no point in Brexit unless you then control immigration and tailor net migration to the country’s needs and capacity. For whatever reason this hasn’t been done.

Having said that maybe if the EU had heeded the warning of Brexit various member countries wouldn’t have needed to have gone further right. FOM and Schengen (as was), are under threat. There finally appears to be a dawning realisation that every country should be able to control its own borders/migration policy

I think Sunak genuinely thought the issue was illegals and why would anyone have an issue with legal immigrants increasing. I suspect that’s the inclination on the left as well. I agree that if overall numbers don’t change to the extent people notice it I’d expect us to go further right.

My one worry is as we saw with Trump the far right can be very aware of how good this issue is for them and not actually want to solve it.

I said they don't have a popular mandate - only 20% of the electorate voted for them.

They do have a disproportionate majority in the House of Commons which means they can do pretty much what they want to. It sounds as if they are even pissing off some of the minority of the electorate that voted for them.

26% of the electorate voted for the Tories in 2019 but you were happy for them to do 'pretty much what they want to'

These are the sourest of sour grapes I'm afraid.

And you're getting a taste (maybe more than a taste by the sounds of it!) of how the rest of us have felt for the last 14 years.
