Why a Christmas market a long way from where he lived?
Surely going to the German parliament and trying if he was anti government or his local mosque on Friday afternoon would have fitted his beliefs and taken less planning if he was anti islam.

You speak like someone willing to drive into people is a rational actor

There are bits now coming out of his recent support for Hamas and connections to shia extremists.
There is a rule in Islam where you can lie to progress the cause. 20 years is a long time but depends how committed someone Is I suppose.
I’m sure there will be more coming out (maybe not on the bbc though).
Go with an open mind as either could be right.
If he's from Saudi they're predominantly sunni muslim

Had a read. It allows a Muslim to hide their faith where life or property are at risk and where no danger to religion would occur.

Not sure how you think this applies. But maybe @SBT can fill me in if I’ve got something wrong.
Happy to confirm that I know sweet fuck all about the Islamic concept of Taqqiya, and certainly wouldn’t pretend to know any different for the purposes of this thread!

An illuminating article on this topic:

Remarkable to see you’re keeping such an open mind on this particular attack - where did this newly-found intellectual curiosity come from all of a sudden? Truly amazing.

Fuck off.

I'm genuinely interested in establishing what exactly motivated the killer.

I have a very strong suspicion I already know, but keeping an open mind anyway.

I’ve had a couple of long term relationships over the years with Muslim women and probably know as much as you. A lot of Muslims are as Muslim as you and I are Christian.

Sure but although im not at all Christian (I was raised atheist), I have a better passing understanding of the rituals of Catholicism than your average data engineer in Mumbai might.

Irrespective of the religious/ideological rabbit hole down which this thread has disappeared, it was a massive security cock-up by the German police. I was at a market in Northern France a couple of weeks ago, and let me tell you, there is no way any vehicle attack was getting anywhere near either of two huge adjacent market places. There were concrete barriers on nearly all access points, and the others, which were emergency access routes (as this attack exploited), were covered by movable barriers which are capable of stopping a truck, and all manned by groups of four armed police or military.
Magdeburg seemingly left their emergency routes open to attack.

That is some falling if it's accurate, guess there will be questions.

What a sad indictment that is of how European people have had to change their way of life in the last few years.
