He Is not really coming at it from the point of a few poshos having to pay tax - I would imagine most already pay shed loads. His accent is why I described him as Marmite. He says he didnt attend a private school, unlike some other barristers - Starmer for example.
He is approaching it from the position of incredulity that the government is seeking to take some sort of urgent action as a result of a policy they announced some time ago. If only they had done a proper impact assessment!
I think you are shooting the messenger here shmmeee. I would have hoped that a seasoned political observer like yourself would have given him longer than 5 seconds and actually listened to what he is saying rather than making a huge assumption.
At the end of the day, taxation on private school fees per se makes fuck all difference to me and mine UNTIL the local state schools are over full with posho‘s kids who have nowhere else to go. He describes parents trying to make arrangements with LAs and being fobbed off. A desperate situation in my view.
PS Presumably as soon as Starmer, Reeves, Rayner etc start talking about private school fees I should take the view that they aren’t worth listening to. I Can easily subscribe to that view.
