And yes he does play the ball short and to the side sometimes but that is what CDMs are meant to do, retain the ball.

He clearly also has the ability to pink lovely long passes and carry it forward through the thirds himself

I think a lot of what they say about him and their frustrations with him will be true, it’s up to Lampard to get what we need out of him. He’s evidently very talented.

In terms of the ‘progressive passes’ is that not just because he’s playing in a back 3 in possession and therefore, is going to be playing forward more often.

Still slightly nervous about this one. It's a lot of money for a player with no sell on and whom would be a top earner.
Lots and lots of comments regarding his style of play, sideways and backwards and nullifying any sort of attacks with his slow play.
I understand Swansea fans might be salty and reactive, and yes I remember they didn't rate Vik, but they've watched Grimes for 10 years and I'd say that's a good time to form an opinion. They seem happy with the move, saying it gives them a chance to change their style. They all say his passing stats are inflated as all of the passes are simple, sideways and backwards.
This view isn't from one or two of them, it's the majority.
When Hamer left we were all upset, but we never claimed he was as shit as they're making Grimes to be.
Hopefully he turns out to be class and makes the Swansea fans cry, but I will watch with trepidation.
He’s not being signed to be dynamic he’s being targeted to link the back 4/5 with our midfield.

I'm well aware, I appreciate the multiple screenshots too. We all know data is a good indication, but it doesn't tell the full story. I imagine there is a slight truth behind their comments though, but we'll see. Let's hope Frank has him playing a fast tempo.
The Swanseas fans view on Grimes may be an emperors new clothes thing, he's probably a bit symbolic of their current scenario. They've basically done fuck all for the last 5 years, in that period they endured Russel Martin's tedious football which is basically possession and fuck all else.

He is clearly a good player and from memory has basically run every game we've had against Swansea.

They are the fan based who laugh when we signed Vik, couldn't believe we even paid a fee for him.
They had Vik for 6 months. Grimes has played 300 times for Swansea. We didn't think Ayari was good enough, he's now a Premier League regular. I don't think thr Vik argument is a good comparison.

They see the turgid Martinball as the peak of football evolution

Theres also so many Swansea fans who are saying if we sell him we’re getting relegated

just sounds like bitter fans to me
That’s my point a lot of these opinions have been around for a couple of years not just because of the last 24 hours, I’ve referenced them before. So at those times there would be nothing to bitter about.

If we're using a CDM as a 'quarterback' because of his amazing passing stats, he will dictate tempo too. Let's hope Frank has him playing quickly.
That was like McLean for Norwich at the CBA, he dictated the way the whole game was played

Oh really fair enough, the stats don’t lie he’s a good midfielder.

he’s probably the sheaf replacement a window early, a good one at that

Ayari was a kid when he was here.
Grimes is nearly 30.

I can confirm this. In the last few windows before we were linked with him and people suggested him in other chats I said swans fans weren’t big fans of his, it’s not now that he is leaving they have turned. I’d say it was probably a large proportion that weren’t happy with him. I’ve changed over the last day or so I’m quite excited now and hoping it works out and we play a way that suits him, I do however worry some of fans will turn on him for perceived lack of effort or looking like he can’t be arsed quite quickly like they have on other players in the past.

When / if he signs

The reaction from fans of other clubs will tell you everything

It's an impressive signing for any team in this league

Perhaps the misguided rage is due to the sale to a rival. Often fans from abroad or lower leagues are more honest as they are seeing a player progress to better things. Swansea probably think they're better than us.

Football supporters in general are some of the most bitter people when it comes to player sales .. see cal for reference ( we all are )

He will be what is known as the ‘glue’ for this team. Exactly what we need.

Let's hope he can protect the back 4 or 5 with his defensive abilities aswell as his range of passing.
You do realise the days of CDM being defensive ball winners are long gone

From the wales online. Seems the wage limit is about to be broken

Grimes is currently one of the top earners at Swansea, but could be in line for big pay rise should the move go through, with Coventry understood to be ready to offer him between £30k-£35k a week.
cannot understand why oh why they wouldnt make the same offer for Hamer! it would have saved al this shite we are going through?

While there not great I would add that due to Swansea retaining more of the ball then any team bar Leeds, stats such as ground duels are going to be lower as he would be facing less of them
He doesn't have a clue what players in the CDM do in modern teams.

It's not his job to win tackles etc, he is there to help block lanes but his main role is in possession.

He seems to think modern CDMs are like David Fucking Batty
