2024/25 League 1 Champs?

The serious business starts Tuesday, 6 game run that will define our season
Today and Wednesday just a distraction.

exactly this - absolutely no real bother today other than it shows we have very little strength in depth, and Latibeaudiere is not a RWB

it must be very difficult being as up and down as some of you guys

They’ve all lost 🤣 fantastic point you make there

How can you miss such a basic point so often? It has to be trolling at this stage.

Serious question but were Ipswich anything special. Leeds were a far better team than them, other than their finishing from our gifted mistakes they looked like a team from the championship and if we had plyed a full strength side or even a decent first 11 we would have beat them.
if thats how they play every week can see why we will probably be playing them next season

Look if we're honest the last 2 games just show how far off the level we are

It's all well and good Doug saying about the 3 play offs in 5 years plan (which btw is 3 in 3 from next season), and he's doing his best, but we are nowhere near the level required to get out of this league

Are we a decent side? Yes. Are we good enough to go up even if we make play offs? Absolutely not, we would get eaten alive every week

Only 2 ways you get out of the Championship, a once in a generation season (Ipswich, Blackpool, Hull, Luton and ALMOST us)

Or you have Parachute money / silly amounts of money Wolves promotion season style.

The longer it goes on the more it seems the PO Final was THE chance, and we didn't take it

Don't get me wrong, it can be done, look at Sunderland this season, flying. But that is more the exception than the norm

If we hadn’t made mistakes we probably still lose both. Disregarding the mistakes Leeds were by far the better team and Ipswich had the better of the game today.

You don’t get any points for a spirited loss.
Leeds maybe, today was a gift for Ipswich.

On the ball even, off the ball less so.

By the end of the game I'd have cheered a two footer and a red card, it was pathetic.

Look at Brum v Newcastle. That's a real quality gap, we should at least be able to battle.

Birmingham spending is comparable to Newcastle tbf 🫣

Not sure I follow. If we make and win the playoffs then it's academic if we are 'good enough' to go up. The playoffs are routinely made up of multiple teams that finished outside the top 6 the previous season. The goal is to be in the mix every year, and it doesn't seem like we're a million miles off that.

Again... what difference does other team's performances make?

I'm not defending them... I thought the set up at kick off & general tactics were bizarre.

Because people in this thread keep saying we can’t expect a good performance against teams above us in the pyramid.

grimes signed because of the “ plan “ we’ve got, Lampards here because he must of been told he’ll get what he needs, think we” ll be so much stronger next season and hopefully it’ll be the first season where we don’t have any issues, still think we’ll come up,short this season but we’ll be set up good for next season, we’ll always be after the 4th 5th or 6th spot like you say, Sunderland haven’t gone mad but that’s taken them 2 seasons to put that team together, still don’t get why we don’t have loans, could be the difference ?

Not to be pedantic to the overall point but doesn’t he include the playoff final as one of these seasons. So it would be 2 in 3.

Anyway it’s a very difficult league as we all know. Do think with Mark and Adi it would have been done. Hard to see it now but do feel we’ll make a go of the top six

just hope Lampard gets the funds that robins did, just hope that wasn’t our best chance of a decent budget and we’ve blown it on this squad, look at who we’ve just signed for 3 million, binks and Thomas cost more or less that ? We’ve wasted millions

2 22 year olds for the cost of one 29 year old (less I think Thomas £2m and Binks £1.3M) isn’t crazy. The players we’ve signed have been poor across the board. First touch and general ability on the ball is some of the worst I’ve seen even for the better players. And the ones with good technique (Dasilva and Sakamoto only really) are weak and small and generally can’t impose themselves on the game.

Dunno why everyone is losing it. The fact we're still even in with a shout of play offs is a miracle. I said of Lampard I wanted him to get us top half and give me hope for next season again, that goal is going well so far.
We've also seen obvious improvements in certain players, and we've done it all with some very significant injury issues.
Any excuse for a head loss on the internet though.

I meant more about the quality of player and TBH we’re not going to get much more for Thomas and binks when we sell them on, we’ve spent 3 million on one of the best players in the league, hopefully that’s the start of many more, difference is we sold hamer got a few quid and we’ve not been the same since, Sunderland sold probably their best player ( clarke) and theyv’e got better, our recruitment and spendings been shocking

£3.5-4m according to reports, which makes him more comparable to MvE and Simms though they were both significantly younger. Kitching and EMC perhaps. Both a touch more I think but a touch younger too.
