Michael McIndoe tore us to shreds every time he played against us, especially once for Bristol City at the CBS

Signed for us and was dross, then scammed half the squad out of their savings:LOL:

I dated his ex missus a few times a few years after all that happened. She was like 26 and said she was retired lol. Not the brightest but she was hot as fuck

Not overrated but useless. Paul Edwards looked petrified every time the ball got near him. I remember Oggy giving him hell on the pitch. Anyone remember him?
i do - you are right he was dreadful. It was like he had a live hand grenade at his feet when he had the ball. IIRC he was highly rated at Crewe as well - not sure what happened when he moved to us.

Richard Shaw and Michael Doyle stick out in my mind

Though I've not forgotten Micky Adams for subbing Shaw off in his testimonial game against Celtic!

In my mind we spent £900k on Drinkell and a few mil on O’Neil. Let’s be honest, both shite. Althogh I did see Drinkell score a couple of decent goals…vs Utd and…er…Grimsby. Who actually think would’ve been half decent back then.
I have no real recollection of O'Neill as a player (which tells you something in itself), but he wasn't that much, was he?

Yeah, overhead kick then a drive from outside the area! Shame we were four down, mind. 🤣 I remember that game for one of the worst tackles I've ever seen when Robson absolutely did Speedie.

You’re right! The internet tells me we paid £1mil for O’Neill. Drinkell wins this round!

Yeah his goal against Utd was a belter but meaningless.
I’m not sure I remember the Speedie challenge - I’ll see if I can jog my memory - but I do have it in my mind that Robson was a dirty player so that must’ve come from somewhere.

In my efforts to think of worse signings/overrated players…he must’ve been rated at some point but when we got the arthritic ex-Liverpool player Kevin Macdonald. He could’nt move!

Jim O’Brien absolute garbage footballer who was indicative of our slide down the divisions.

Magnus Hedman - big bloke shit keeper.

Marcus Hall-left footed left back but nothing else.

Paul Williams-overrated.

As for Craig Bellend-never played well for us and if you were around when he played was always offside and didn’t give a shit.

Peter Reid.

Finally all the players Jim Smith brought in to derail the brilliant Rolland Niilson season-we were on our way until he came in.

Agreed. He was awful! Mad that he was ever at Liverpool at that time.

Nii Lamptey… that’s probably enough!

Read this morning that Nii Lamptey is the youngster ever goalscorer in European club competition!

I then looked at his Wiki...had 5 children with his first wife and tragically, two died from lung disease and then he found out that the other 3 weren't his biologically. Poor bloke.

2006 Kevin Kyle 600k from Sunderland where he had been their leading scorer.
3 years later he had scored the grand total of 5 goals before leaving on a free.
one of the worst strikers Ive ever seen play for us

He was not overrated though was he? He was constantly barracked while he was here.

I remember at the time, before he hit his ridiculous form that fans were spitting feathers we were not starting him over McNulty, just shows how much fans really know deep down and what we do not see behind closed doors doesn't it

He should have kicked on when he got into the team but for whatever reason didn't

He's at Tamworth now scored his first goal the other night

I was one of those that wanted him given his chance at the time. His goals record in the academy was just so good that it seemed nuts not to give him a chance when we were struggling for goals. When he did play he also scored a couple of goals that made him look like a natural finisher, albeit his overall game clearly needed working on. To that end MR persisted on playing him wide, which clearly wasn't his strength and did him no favours. Us getting promoted made it even harder for him to break through, and then getting a bad injury on loan at Tranmere was effectively the end for him, but definitely hold my hands up that I was wrong on him.

Guy we had from villa Richardson?
He was strongly disliked, and my own memory of him is that he was dross. But look back at highlights of games from that time, and he's often heavily involved in the good stuff we did.

Therefore, I don't know how much of the problem was that he tried ambitious things more and so sometimes they didn't come off, or if he was genuinely a bit crap.

He had a very, very good career, though.

Back on the correct thread

Bigi (who even I overestimated his ability by saying he’d be playing for Rugby by now) was absurdly thought of on here

The hype around around Tom Bayliss was another. One certain expert described him as Gazza in his prime.

yea quite a few mentioned that weren't actually rated highly by many.

On that basis I'm going for the unpopular opinion (which proves my point!) of O'Hare.

His poor goal involvement output ignored by most because he ran around a lot and once wore a sky blue wig.

moved on to bigger and better things for no transfer fee and to a team in the same league

some put him in the Hamer and Gyokeres bracket

Think it was similar with Fabio Tavares, where CWR callers were wanting him to start over Simms or Wright.
To be fair though, Tavares has had some impact for us in the past, particular in the FA Cup games last season.

I worry Bassette might eventually fall into the same category, but I think he might have a bit more about him

He was clearly overrated when we bought him. But your right it didnt take the fans long to work its was totally overrated based on one good season at Sunderland. Think the Mackems got their own back for Bristol

Im sure in a poll 90% of fans didn’t want him to sign!

Who are the most underrated players during their time here, who went onto better things than they were given credit for than when here?
