Using populations of areas can be misleading though. Using that logic Leeds Utd are one of the worst supported teams in the country.

I don't need to hide behind any excuses, I pick and choose these days when I go up, why? Because I can. I've had a season ticket for 15 years in succession in the past, but now I go when I want regardless of what anyone else says or thinks. I went Tuesday, I didn't go yesterday. Do I care what people think? Not one iota. I hope that's cleared it up in case any of you think I give a toss what you think.

I agree, but I was responding to your own point!! ;)

I think it's a combination of reasons as to why we suffer. Lack of silverware/trips to Wembley being one. A vast multi-cultural history being the other. Plus, compared to the likes of Norwich and Southampton, our socio-economic situation has always been worse.

To show those who think it is some form of competition that those of us who pick and choose couldn't care less what they think. I can't believe people get so precious about it, do I care whether somebody goes more or less than me? Nope, fair play if they do, so what if they don't.

We can only deal with the here and now and our gates and halve the size they were in our first season at the Ricoh.

10.5-11.5k gates are poor for a place the size of Coventry and warwickshire.

Every club has fickle fans, it's just our seen more fickle than most.

This city grew out of the motor industry and the mining work. People came here from all over the country to find jobs , when all that started to decline in the 70s so did the crowds. The same cannot be said of Norwich , without any figures to back it up i would guess most people at Carrow rd on a matchday are born and bred in the area. we have become a mish mash of people over the last 40-50 years.
I liken it to the amount of people in the city who support Ireland and claim to be irish purely through family roots.

In my experience, these 'REAL' fans, whose main focus in life is CCFC, are normally slightly odd, dull and have poor dress sense. Still, whatever makes them happy.

We had our chance to stick another 3-4000 on the gate yesterday on Tuesday and they blew it badly. If you hadn't been up for a while and witnessed that you would think that nowt had changed for the better at all.

Sadly the way far too many come across that way, if not being abusive their players then being abusive to fellow fans who have a difference of opinon. It's embarrasing and must come across to other clubs as Chaventry City rather than Coventry City.

But you can't knock Tuesday night for entertainment value, excepting the result that is.

A good gate at HR when in the 3rd and later in the 2nd division was way better than now, and in the Championship. Somebody, quite rightly said the gates were better because we had a thriving motor industry in the 40's 50's 60's and 70's. Not only cars but tanks, and personell carriers, during the war years.
People came from all over Britain, and Ireland to work, and their recreational time was spent watching football. Not many, now have any affinity with CCFC.
They, like me, support the team where they come from, (I live in Wales but have CCFC in my heart.)
30k+ at the Ricoh.....Any of that money been put back into the team?..........No fucking chance with SISU at the helm!

As Gray has already eluded to premier league teams' fans manage to make it games? If we were in the premier league would we have 11k attendances? No. People would make sacrifices to watch games just because we were in a higher league so it should be no different in league 1.

Not sure you are right on that one. I was talking to some Sky Blues season ticket holders and the consensus is that they will never pay over inflated prices if we end up in the premiership. Their view is that the game has got to come back to the fans. All of them are earning reasonable money. So blind faith that you have is more likely the exception rather than the rule.

Recession, crap football, crap managers, crap owners, discerning people who look for entertainment at a price and above all a resillience worn down by all of the former.

Not sure the football was better then. But the spirit in the team was probably better because people came from the local areas. I'm sure we all remember times when the crowds were better and the games were more exciting and we were all committed to going to every game like some of the 'at all costs' fans we have on this board. They are no different to what many of us have been like in the past.

The main die hard fans who go to every home / away / pre season / tour / reserve / youth teams. I just can't see how they can afford it AND work at the same time.

Would have had an absolute hoot. Aside from the weather, team result and expenditure.

Few extra layers and jobs a good'n. There was plenty to enjoy, and if you eat well before going to the match, you don't even have to buy a pie!! If you fancy a drink, I'm sure you could have a few before or after! There's no law stating you have to drink in the ground. :p

At the moment, the product the ticket buys (football) is worth the money!!

True indeed, I take a flask and am quite happy by the end of the game.

An average league gate of 31k would see us better supported than all but 11 Premier league teams.

Do you think its realistic to expect a third division team, who have had 1 good season in 43 years, to be better supported than all those other teams??

Deluded is the word that springs to mind.

Tell me, have you ever heard of the recession and what it's doing to the average man and womens money situation right now?

I'm one of those extra 20,000 and as a lot of people will know on here, I'm a loyal Sky Blues fan and have sky blue blood running through my veins!

I just can't afford to go to every game and that sucks for me. If someone offered me a season ticket, I'd be there every week.

So keep your eliteism to yourself please!

As hard up as you quote you will still have to pay out a fair few quid to go to Wembley ;) no matter what , a lot of people went to get the wembley dream ticket and dont even argue that :pimp:

To think everyone who went actually supports Cov is wrong, a few rugby lads I know and lads from school who don't even like football, let alone CCFC went.

£5, you CAN'T go wrong, even with hindsight.

Not a fashionable game to go to is it, I didn't even try to get time off work for that one.

Crewe was a good game for some neutrals who wanted to go to a football game of importance, for a £5 it is good money.

What I didn't mention was that there was a desire of SOME of the people I know wanted to go to Wembley, but I know a fair few people who went but had NO intention to go Wembley, I went with one.

If the tickets were the usual league prices we would've got just over 20k max really.

Obviously the chance to go to Wembley was a big factor in the drive in sales, but he price drawn in many neutrals.
