We should start planning a Phoenix club... (3 Viewers)

In my view we/i am clutching a straws that SISU will go, certainly not in the near future...by then we will be playing out of the City (best case scenario) at worst we may no longer exist. I do think the time is right to start at looking at a plan B - building a new team or taking over a team like Coventry Sphinx, Copeswood...with all that has gone on I no longer have the love I once had for the club, don't get me wrong I want to love the club but its now tarnished...it's like finding out your Mrs has had an affair IMO...we would have enough supporters to help with a new club and there is plenty of talented footballers locally that would play for buttons to pull on the Sky Blue shirt, we could build from the bottom, lets face it we are not far from the bottom now - we could get help from local businesses as it would be affordable for them, we would I believe rise up the non leagues easily due to the support of our fanbase - buying the club like discussed by the trust is a non starter, its too much money and SISU don't want to sell - lets get back to basics and build again - after all our city and citizens are famous the world over for brushing our selves down and starting again - lets not be distracted anymore by SISU/ACL - lets focus on what is important and that is a team in COVENTRY that we can all relate too and love...CCFC CTID.

Why not just watch Coventry sphinx?

I've always been somewhat scathing about the idea of starting a phoenix club while the original club still exists, it just wouldn't work. That said, the more this drags on the more I think that perhaps putting that idea out there and talking about it wouldn't be a bad thing - it might focus minds a bit.

Taking over another club like Sphinx wouldn't work. It would have to be a new club and everyone (the fans I mean) would have to buy into the idea - and I doubt they would. Perhaps it is something that we should start to look at though because I cannot see an end to this mess.

Well we won't be CCFC and you won't be CTID.

To be honest if Sisu come out of this (as I imagine) owing nothing to ACL and still in control, then I'm probably done too. If they get out of paying their debts then why should any stadium owner agree to them playing there? In fact why would any supplier agree? Would you give a company credit that has history of refusing to pay then doing what must be an illegal manoeuvre (and if it's not it should be) by creating a new company and slipping into the night.

If we're not at The Ricoh, then IMO we're not CCFC and I won't be going. I have a feeling that Sisu might win the battle but lose the war here. They're hoping our attachment to the club keeps us coming back, but by severing all ties with the city they've damaged their only hand.

Let the fuckers bleed out in Walsall or wherever, and we start again.

It'd have to be a brand new club so that it's clear what's happening to all fans, simply supporting another one locally isn't the point. The point is WE are CCFC not any holding company, players, directors or managers and if WE fuck off else where then for all intents and purposes CCFC fuck off too.

So pissed off over the last 48 hours. Was reasonable and willing to see both sides, now I've just had enough. Shut Down or Restart please.

Because Coventry Sphinx as it is wont get anywhere...it would have to be aligned or re-branded to represent the City...and the fans need to to behind it, currently Sphinx get around 50/150 each week that will hardly give a budget to climb the leagues...

I agree, just not sure how inspiring playing in a very empty stadium would be for a new club...but I think we should look at pulling something together because the only thing SISU have is the potential of our money without this they are fooked - lets start again - at the bottom and get our pride back...cos Iv had enough of this shite.

Any new Phoenix club that had the full backing of the supporters and which was seen as the continuation of CCFC would be allowed to join at a higher level than Sphinx anyway I suspect.

really, that is interesting...Rangers got into the Scottish 3 Division, I suppose it is possible.

Sell the stadium to PH4. Don't let CCFC play there. Allow sphinx to play there hopefully they will rise through the leagues as CCFC get relegated risk going under as they play in front of 1,500 at Nene Park then see if they will sell up.
Never thought I would talk about my "beloved" club like that and believe me I am a passionate fan have the medals to prove it but like so many on here this sisu carry on is driving a wedge between me and the club and it is tarnishing all the fond memories. Sisu smart in the courts poor at managing a football club and have probably underestimated the fans on this one.

I read somewhere we would drop 2 leagues if we got liquidated and start a fresh. Like Nuneaton and Chester. Change name. I'd happy take that at the min because way things are going will end up in the blue square in 2 years

The difference here is the old club still exist so would essentially be a brand new club.

I also don't think you could start at the Ricoh, the costs would be too high. Would be better ground sharing at the Butts (which would be big enough to start - many wont watch non league football) with a view to either moving back to the Ricoh once we rise through divisions or building a new ground in Coventry.

The biggest advantage of a Phoenix club should be fan ownership. Would need at least 50% fan ownership. Not sure a PH4 would be interested but sure someone like Hoffman could help secure appropriate funding to get us back to league football.

Would need to start with a manager who knows the level maybe with support from some club legends on a voluntary basis.

It needs planning to start now for the start of next season (2014/15).

I dispute that a ground with a capacity of 3000 would be big enough to accommodate this city's football club, regardless of what league we are in. The Butts is out of the question unless they could build temporary stands to at least double the capacity.

Agree. But also don't need 32,000. Don't forget we wouldn't need to be all seater. But would need more than 3k I agree. Adjustments would need to be made.

Some thoughts about 'Coventry Phoenix FC':

- ACL should lock SISU's CCFC out of the Ricoh and call their bluff.

- Agree to sell the Higgs 50% to Haskell's consortium.

- Haskell injects considerable finance to set up Coventry Phoenix, who will start their journey in one of the bottom leagues.

- Pheonix will use the Ricoh, with rents structured to rise as the club progresses up the league structure.

- Seems like a few people on here are already thinking laterally about supporting a phoenix club - I for one will give absolutely no support or money to CCFC while SISU are in control - however a phoenix club could be a rollercoaster of a ride!

- It looks like CCFC under SISU would be absolutely unsustainable. There would be minimal revenue from ticket sales, merchandise sales, sponsorship etc, and liquidation within 12 months.

Pie in the sky? Perhaps.

But desperate days (and owners) call for brave decisions.

i guess the question is,how many of us would turn up on a cold december night to watch coventry v barwell town
Also, how much would we be prepared to pay for the privilige

Nuneaton town as a guide got around 700 at that level at around £10 a game
on that reckoning, we may get 2000

Either way , even if we could get in any sponsorship etc, your total revenue would be around £1m per year
I think you may get to the conference, but to get into the league is a big step from there

That is not a bad idea at all. We are talking last chance saloon here of course, but if PH4 got the stadium and Sphinx moved there then with a bit of backing that club would fly through the leagues.

The other thing is of course, if Sisu move CCFC away and a new club is formed then there is no way the council will allow Sisu to build yet another stadium in Coventry and therefore there would probably never be a route back into the city anyway.

If I have a quiet night at work I will do a bit of research/thinking. First step would be consultations with those that had done it like Wimbledon, FCUM, Darlington, etc

Why not just support Coventry Sphinx?

They would not be Coventry City (or a continuation of). They would not have fan ownership.

I know it's not for everyone but starting to think it may be for some. It needs to be a structure where the fans have a say.

None of that makes any sense. We'd only get a little over double what Nuneaton get?

Some people have no idea how big this football club is, let alone how big it could be.

To suggest we'd struggle to get the finances to get out of the conference is madness - Coventry City would be the biggest club to play at that level in the modern era - how could the best resourced club in the league by a mile struggle to get out of it long term?

It could be a rollercoaster - play up Sky Blue Phoenix!

But at the moment there is absolutely no evidence that CCFC/SISU have seriously planned to play outside Coventry.Yes they have talked about the possibility, threatened it,but where is the evidence that they have set in train serious plans to move away.Playing at Walsall/Birmingham would only result in SISU losing money at a faster rate than already. The fixtures are released on June 18th,and yet all SISU have come up with so far is some vague fan consultation on a 'possible' move away from Coventry. If they were serious about doing it,don't you think they would be a little more advanced than they currently are.Leaving the Ricoh would be a disaster for the club and the fans, but it would be an even bigger financial disaster for SISU,and they must know that.

People are suggesting that a new club be started regardless of what SISU's plans are on that front.

Put is this way, if PH4 et al announced tomorrow that they were starting a new club and applying to play in the BS next season and that a deal had been done for the new club to play at the Ricoh - then I think a lot (most) of the fans would follow. What could SISU possibly do in those circumstances? Nothing, and the 'club' that they own would essentially become homeless, supporterless and worthless. In time the new club would come to be known as CCFC and would assume the history of the old club and would probably buy back the name further down the line (I think Newport did that).

I doubt this would happen because not enough time to get ready for next season, but it could work in theory.

Desperate times...

Well you keep supporting SISU then and see our club plummet into the wilderness like Darlington

While SISU are here and want to play out of coventry then it's no longer Ccfc and more like SISU FC to me and I think the majority of fans feel the same. We don't have a club at the min as far as I'm concerned.

You carry on been super fan then. SISU will thrive on you financing there plan of wrecking this club. Because that's what you'll be doing by giving them your money. If the past 2 days hasn't made you realise what awful owners we have then nothing ever will.
