Imagine the football club were at the Ricoh, or imagine they never moved from Highfield Road. I guarantee that the majority of people defending the building of Hotels around such a complex would all think it was a ridiculous idea.
OK, where are we...
Personal views I guess
Firstly, don't care if the council build hotels there. Why not? It's their land, and if it's such a great deal they should have done it long ago. This is a perfectly reasonable thing to do if it's a surefire winner.
Why don't I care? Because a football club should be about football first and foremost. Owners want to build some hotels? Nothing stopping them doing so either, but I want my football club focussed on football, where a football stadium is central and the priority to the club. Am sick of prospective owners of the club being sold potential land development deals, sick of our owners talking about revenue streams... sick of the talk being of other things than OUR FOOTBALL CLUB.
And in that respect, the quote from the councillor about the club being a sideshow... says all we need to know about what little care anybody with the means and power to influence things cares about our club.
It explains why Fletcher had to put the CCFC crest up on the side by himself one night.
It explains why the Ricoh is not home, even if we play there. The club's just a sideshow, has no respect... never has.
Pathetic, all of them. It just shows none of them care about a football club, none of them see beyond the financial. By all means build hotels on land you own if they're profitable, that should frankly have been done long ago.
But never, NEVER call my club a sideshow. Culture and heritage clearly unimportant, neither our governers nor our owners deserve a football club in their midst.
