When Gael Bigirimana arrived at Newcastle two years ago from Coventry, and then played 25 times with one goal in his first season, which included playing 10 times in the Europa league, it looked like Newcastle had signed a gem for only £1M, and he would quickly go on to become a Newcastle regular in the side.

But it shows just how fragile football careers can be – especially for youngsters – and last season Gael seemed to disappear – and a lot of the absence was caused by injury, and he ended up playing only one game for Newcastle and then last week he was left out of the squad that went to New Zealand.
However, its not the end of the world for Gael – and he should remember that James Perch was left out of the squad that flew to America three years ago, but in the following season James still played 28 times for Newcastle and made a significant contribution to Newcastle finishing 5th top of the Premier League.
This is what Gael has said today:

“I don’t know. It depends on how the manager sees you.” “Things were looking brighter, but things can change quickly.¨ “Sometimes you find yourself at the top of the world in football, and very soon you find yourself at the bottom of the world.¨
“If the manager doesn’t see you in his plans, then there’s nothing you can do but see if you can get some games and see what the future holds.¨
“I’m not a person that goes around and says this or that if the manager has changed his mind. If he has, that’s his decision.¨ “I’m not going to say ‘why this?’ and ‘why that?’.¨
“Football’s like that. You’ve got to be strong. You just have to go somewhere where you can get games.”

Gael will have to see how things go in pre-season, but if nothing much changes then maybe the best thing would be for Gael to go out on loan – even for the season – to get some regular first team games.
But there’s still a decent chance that Gael can make it at Newcastle, and after all last season, he couldn’t quite get going with (all) the injuries he picked up.

Please forgive me for having a opinion jimmyhillsfanclub, but have you taken time to actually READ the comments from their fans? or is it just YOUR opinion of Newcastle fans in general? One fan talks about Carrol not being able to fit in with the style of "Playing the passing game at Liverpool" and the "Hoofball" under Sam Allardyce at West Ham. Yet Carrol was snapped up by Liverpool for £35m playing the "Newcastle way" Would you say his opinion was shit and laughable? Most have said Bigi needs to be loaned out because Pardew doesn't understand how good Bigi actually is. To finish, IMHO and in the opinion of nearly all the good TV pundits and Ex-Pros, Newcastle fans ARE the most knowledgable. Obviously YOUR opinion is better than everyone elses...I bow to your superior knowledge mate.

Well, at the time Newcastle came in for him; Thorn was quoted as follows: “He was given his chance last season and he did really well,” said Thorn. “Then, like most kids breaking through, he had a little dip and we looked after him by taking him out of the team to get him back on his game again. He understood that and did that and he came back strong again, so it would be a real shame if we lost him now."

Of course, far from 'nearly killing him' in the 2012 season, he went on to be named Apprentice of the Year for the Championship at the Football League Awards 2012; at which point he stated: "“I need to thank the Academy staff at Coventry and my team-mates for making me the player that I am today. I would of course like to thank the gaffer for giving me 21 first-team appearances at the age of 17.”

So, I'm not so sure evidence backs your tale of practical decapitation of the lad....

Bigirimana was a another Conor Thomas; he didn't actually do very much but was overhyped because he's young and English.

When Bigi was playing it was almost like there was an imaginary line on the pitch he wasn't allowed to cross and looked scared to get near. He would run it but then suddenly stop to pass it back or play it. Then you see the videos of him in the youth team and he looked completely different.

Thorn did hammer him on the radio after his sending off. Not too sure how much of Bigi's career is down to Thorn though, more likely Rioch etc.

i think they would have ditched thorne in the summer but they wanted fleck and it was only down to thorne's connections that was able to happen.

i always thought gael was a raw talent if you taught him to defend or attack he had the potential to be brilliant

i recall him been asked how gael was because he must be upset and he replied with i dont care how he is feeling then he went on about it been stupid, a red card and he needed to grow up fast. he then went on to slate burnleys bench for their reaction. was one of them moments he was only a kid and needed protecting by his manager and instead thorne threw him under the bus gael wasnt the same player after all that if anything i expected him to stay and cyrus to get transferred to newcastle

I only laughed as I personally have found Geordies to be far too insulated from the rest of football to have any real perspective on the game.....As I say, just from my personal experience of the barcodes.

That challenge was certainly out near the RB position,so I guess he was out of position .

Of course a 17 YR old Is bound to make mistakes ,I'm sure he wasn't played to his own strengths and had to fill a more defensive role .

Carroll left Newcastle January 31st 2011 whereas Pardew joined Newcastle in December 2010. Purdew had nothing to do with the sale of Carroll.

I still remember him against Leicester, he run around the holding area with not one single clue of what to do. He was terrible that day, and no better on other occasions that I seen him either.

I think League One would of been his level so he could find himself gain instead of loving himself instead.
