If we sign best I will windmill my cock at half time vs Wigan
At this level it's more random who scores 20 to be fair. You could've said the same about McGoldrick and Wilson until they scored 20.
It's not the Premiership.
Wilson had never had a chance before and McGoldrick had been fairly prolific at points hadn't he?
Nope.

Mcgoldrick had one okish season the year Southampton were relegated, he got 14 goals that season. His time at Forest though was an abject failure.
12 goals in 46 games is not prolific.
No it isn't, not even close to prolific. He was young at the time though and showed he had a bit of ability and skill

True and the mcgoldrick and Wilson examples are a bit pointless given both went on to show they were quality championship strikers. Best's career has far more in common with Simeon Jacksons than wilson/mcgoldrick. For every mcgoldrick there's 3-4 Elliot's, Jackson, noubles, even Tudguy, etc.
Again as I said early I always rated him, but he isn't the same player who left us.

Best and McGoldrick have very similar career paths. A decent season leading to a move to a bigger team, performed poorly, sent out on loan and again performed poorly before dropping into league one (hopefully with Best) to rediscover form.
Wilson was just a good young player.
I disagree, mcgoldrick moved when he was very young (21 years) as a young promising striker to a club in the same division, found his chances behind a large strike force limited mainly used as sub, came to us still relatively young at 25 and showed he just needed a run in a side. In fact he's still only 27x
Best, joined us at about the same age as mcgoldrick joining forest. Had a bit part couple of seasons, a good run then secured a big move, didn't score for the remainder of the season, had limited chances in the PL, went for another big money money move failed again, then failed at two more loan moves. Turns 29 in 7-8 weeks.
Mcgoldricks career had stagnated, Best's is on the decline - the only similarity is they played for Southampton Academy. If we sign him fair play, but I won't be putting my mortgage on him being the 20 goal striker.

Best didn't fail at Blackburn, he got a horrible injury leading to him playing 14 times in 2 years and subsequently fell out of favour to Jordan Rhodes.
How you can say that McGoldrick's stagnated and Best's declined when they have had a very similar progression and regression is just blindly ignorant.
Best is nearly 29 and has scored 6 goals in 4 years.
I'm not saying he's better, I'm saying that McGoldrick and Best have had very similar career trajectories that Stupot can't see for some reason.Best is nearly 29 and has scored 6 goals in 4 years.

Regardless of this whole Best, DMC debate which is beyond dull,

We have the same debate every time we sign a striker.
DMC scored for fun = every striker stepping down will score for fun. FACT.

Perhaps that is the reasoning of the half-brained idiots on here, but the fact is lots and lots of average players from the league above score for fun in league One. The gap between the two divisions is huge.
If you graph them by age and goals they look totally different. Best and Jackson are far more similar.
Try telling Nouble and Jackson that,
But they haven't. The similarities: both are strikers, both played for Southampton academy, both have played for Ireland. Unless we're now saying that any striker that has struggled in the championship are similar careers. Best is nearly 29 and experienced player and on the decline, mcgoldrick was 24 still a relative novice due to his lack of goals and now 27, scoring c1 in 2 in the championship, in the Ireland squad, rumours of moves to the PL his career is on the up. If you drew their careers on a graph They would look completely different.
Best did fail at Blackburn, the reason may be an injury but he still failed - mcpake, bell, Keith o'neill all failed here mainly due to injuries. And as I've said I rated best, but we're not getting the same player back.
As much as I loved DMC having him is like a poisoned chalice - every single striker we get linked with "well DMC hadn't scored many before coming on loan, so this guy will easily score 20+ goals)

Best is not coming here so this is a pointless conversation.
