    USSR invades Ukraine.

I see there’s been a PoW exchange. My overly optimistic side hopes that the threat of allowing Ukraine to use the weapons in Russia is part of a wider negotiation….we live in hope

    USSR invades Ukraine.

Hmmm, hard to disagree that the US have caused a number of issues globally, however, in recent years Putins invaded crimea, invaded wider Ukraine, killed/poisoned people on U.K. soil, shot down civilian aircraft and killed any political opponents. He’s also been willing to sacrifice hundreds of...

Such a shame for him. He’s tough but what a crazy (stupid) dive which caused it, totally unnecessary, especially when you consider prior concussions. Only slight positive on a personal level for him is at least he signed a massive contract in the off season

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

    Hard not to like Mahomes

Yeah, don’t disagree with a lot of that, it will always be a mix of things that attracts businesses. My point was that I don’t think increasing Corp tax higher than the 25% would be beneficial, especially since Brexit and being on Ireland’s doorstep. Funny you say about Eastern Europe, I hadn’t...

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

Yeah the moderators were clearly biased, although trumps failings during the debate were pretty much self inflicted https://edition.cnn.com/2024/09/11/politics/video/the-lead-jake-tapper-harris-trump-debate-voting-presidential-race-election They should’ve made the candidates answer the key...

Not saying we should follow. Just it’s easy to become uncompetitive

Corporation tax is already going up to 25%. Irelands is 15% I think. I’ve previously highlighted how much additional tax take Ireland generated when they reduced their CT to 12.5%, not even mentioning all of the addition jobs etc brought to the country generating personal tax revenues etc. This...

There’s a big hole forecast as more people move to EVs though. Fuel plus road tax is just a money spinner for governments and they can’t lose that !

Yeah, as you say, pretty much everyone’s probably picked their team already. Those swing states will come down to small numbers though so the debate performances could have an impact

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

Yeah, I’ve watched about half, Trump really struggles to maintain control/focus…just gets involved in rants. I didn’t agree with how Harris became candidate but she’s performed pretty well so far

    England - Lee Carsley Era

Not bad. Could/should’ve been a few more. Would worry about how open we’d be on the break against better teams but he might change things up for them I guess

I never said it was deficit spending that caused the asset bubble though. In no expert but there are various things at play… The asset bubble was caused loose monetary policy - QE and minimal rates for way too long QE has also caused a debasement of currency and to some extent some inflation...

Darnolds probably as good a back up as you could hope for really though. He’s still a starter at some teams. Think you’ll do ok this season.

Agree, US is a very different beast. The points around deficit, printing, debasement etc remain though - they can get away with more than us though

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Yeah, I agree, I’m not sure it’ll save much if anything, once alls done, but might ultimately be a better use of cash ie more going to the poorest and less going to those that don’t need it. Messy for the government though and that’s why I’d have done it for next winter rather than this (with...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Yeah, I feel a bit for the government on this. They obviously want to just remove the hand out for those that don’t need it. They released what they were going to do to early give pensioners as much time as possible to prepare. Unfortunately this has led to a rushed, unclear position on how they...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

But it still potentially leads to the problems discussed before. The less perceived control over the deficit the more the markets will charge on the debt, to pay the interest on the debt you need to print more $/£ (as you’re running a deficit), if you print more $/£ you debase the currency ie...
