    Ben Sheaf

He’s always made 30+ league appearances so as usual, it’s hyperbole to suggest his injury record is a problem.

Well, it’s no different to last season and we were in playoff contention until April. Midfield is an area that needs improving but it can wait until Jan if needs be.

    Summer transfer window 2024

That doesn’t add up because Eccles lined up with Hamer/Kelly/Sheaf in 22/23 and we played more counter attacking that season. We had the 4th best defence that season. The midfield personnel, excluding Torp, have been with us the whole time we’ve been in the Championship. What has changed is...

We conceded soft goals with Sheaf in the team and the defenders haven’t changed…

We’ve clearly identified Bassette as one for the future. Imagine had we not executed the deal, he has a breakout year elsewhere and we miss out on him. The way he played flashed similarities with Gyokeres so it’s easy to see why the club have signed him even though he wasn’t in a priority position.

RB is not that much of a concern because MVE has proven his durability and Lati playing the odd game to deputise is decent enough. My concern is that we concede soft goals and that will cost us more points than MVE being injured for a stretch. The same, to a lesser extent, could be said for the...

    Summer transfer window 2024

They’re not errors at all, what nonsense is that! BTA was WBA’s top goal scorer last season and Bassette looks like a promising player. We’ve got a squad to build and sometimes, the best available players aren’t the positions of need. If we have to wait until January, so be it. I’ve been harsh...

What a stupid question to Eccles right at the end?! 😂

    Summer transfer window 2024

Someone is willing to pay a decent fee for a squad player in the last year of his deal. It would be stupid not to take the money and save the wages.

Relax. We signed Bassette before it was a rumour. I’m confident we’ll get someone in before the deadline.

That’s valid when you score and assist as many goals as KDB. Less so when your they can be counted on 1 hand.

Yes, this is one good area. Now look at how he ranks overall when it comes to successful passes and completion rate %. Look at successful dribbles (%) compared to his dribbles and successful dribbles and again at shots and shot accuracy. It paints a picture: high volume of attempts, low volume...

    Palmer leaving

Agreed. He has flair, no one can deny that but the game moving further away from ‘flair’ players. He’s inefficient and tries a lot of low probability tricks and flicks, hence his output has been low. He’s a good rotation option, unfortunately, his wages are not in that band. Shipping him...

    Palmer leaving

Exactly and you’ve implicitly shown the arguments for letting him go. First and foremost, there’s a reason he wasn’t a starter. Second, we’ve improved as a club and need better players than Palmer. Finally, Palmer hasn’t been fit enough to play 30+ games as a starter. Over a 46 league campaign...

    Palmer leaving

This isn’t a jab at Palmer, just because he’s started the season well, doesn’t mean that’ll continue. Look at last season when Godden scored 6 goals in August-September, it looked like peak Godden was back… Only to score 3 goals from then. 1 league goal and 2 in the FA Cup against Oxford when...

From our POV, £750k is a good value for player who’s in the final year of his contract and a high earner. I’ll frame it this way, would people be happy if we paid 750k for a Championship AM with the following stats: Turns 28 in Nov and is on a wage that is higher than you’d expect for a...

    Summer transfer window 2024

You wouldn't extend his contract at the end of the season so if he has resale value and the freed up wages is a makeweight for a 'marquee' signing in midfield, it's a non-starter. Palmer isn't a bad player but statistically, there are plenty of better players out there at Championship level.

Loans: What are we getting wrong ?

I disagree, we've had players pinched by Man U, Man City and now Chelsea in recent years. We're doing something right but the way Cat 1 teams can pillage lower division young players is ridiculous. At some point, the club will need to obtain Cat 1 status ourselves which (at a guess) won't be...
