    Sunil Chhetri

I'm sure India is a nation of CCFC fans after that hugely publicised trial period.

Will Saturday make your mind up one way or the other?

I didn't miss that, which is why I stressed that a point could be valuable in the right context (e.g. away against a relegation rival or top team). But I'm not talking about individual cases, rather the misguided approval of "a point on the board", "the undefeated run". Eric Black is one of...

Will Saturday make your mind up one way or the other?

It'd be an improvement on last season!

Will Saturday make your mind up one way or the other?

Something the better teams (regardless of resources) understand.

Will Saturday make your mind up one way or the other?

It's really not about the first games. People seem infatuated with them. It's more to do with the utter toothlessness of Thorn's teams. I hate fallacious argument techniques, but what can you do?

Will Saturday make your mind up one way or the other?

Contextually, sure, a point can have value. As a general principle, it's not something to be celebrated. Completely depends on who the team is playing, what the standings are, goal difference etc. Think about it.

Will Saturday make your mind up one way or the other?

This is an important point. Fans are waaaaay too enamoured with "no defeats as yet", "unbeaten so far". Means sod all if you're getting weak draws. The point from a draw is well overvalued.

    "Gel"

It's really not, SBW. We've had an entire season of AT; one ought to be able to identify managerial shortcomings/positives regardless of the team's budget or aspirations. I do agree that there's no point in sacking AT now, after he's spent a summer bringing in "his" players. So give him 10, 15...

    People judge too quickly!

Nobody is judging him on the Yeovil game alone.

    People judge too quickly!

Say what you want about the pros and cons of Thorn's leadership, but you cannot say that people are judging too quickly - he's been in charge for 18 months, not two weeks.

Taken out of context. Well done. To add: the interesting - and amusing - thing here is that you put such a premium on results, yet give your full and unconditional backing to the manager with the poorest results record in CCFC history. You'd justify that by adding some context (i.e. SISU) - so...

Straw man argument. I am not denying the importance of results. If I did, what would be the point in following any sports?

Man Utd wouldn't have the trophies they do if they were not one of the elite performing teams in the world. What we may consider lousy by their standards would probably be excellence for most others.

    Is it that bad

We did, it just didn't win away from home.

Almost never. You'd be wrong then. Read any book on sports psychology or coaching excellence and see for yourself. There's no shortage of feedback from winning teams, coaches and players on the championship mindset.
  16. Colonel Mustard

    Is it that bad

Nothing can be read from a single game. If SISU didn't sack AT in the off-season then there is no point at all in sacking him now. We'll see where the team is after 10 games, as well as the performances...

You have it the wrong way around. The best teams eliminate the importance of results from their mindset and focus on maximum performance. They recognise that with that, results and medals and awards and glory and honour etc will follow.
  18. Colonel Mustard

Indeed. If the performances had been better, the results would have been better. Results are the byproduct of good coaching - which we do not have.

Results are irrelevant; it's about performance. Never trust the lazy victory.

    Coventry v Yeovil matchday thread

So last season the excuse was "we have too few players", and this season it is "we have too many players". Priceless.
