He was looking for the ball and to make the run plenty. Unfortunately every player knocks it 5 years sideways asking a teammate to take responsibility.

He’s been good generally this season the biggest issue for me is how often we expect him to use his feet. If we want to play our way out of a press maybe we need Collins (assuming that’s why he was brought in).

He was one of the few players to take a shot and work the keeper. At one point he put 2-3 low balls in to a dangerous position and nobody reacted and went for it.

It looked like last night we’d played the box and Wright to counter their high press and give us an outlet yet we barely played the ball to him all night and built up slowly until West Brom were organised behind the ball.

First half he was took his man on several times and finally saw a bit more of his pace.

I think this is the only problem really. We’re just too slow in the build up, players shy to put the ball in. Wright was waving his arms around getting more and more frustrated as the ball just never came.

This made me have a quick look at the stats, as seemed about right to me, but Simms might actually have the lowest xG per minute and Wright the highest. That was a brief look doing the maths in my head and could be wrong. As others have said Wright was poor in the games he’s started though.

It is annoying me how Wright and Simms are expected to be better than Vic and Gyok because they cost more when they cost a fraction of their final value. Two of the best players in this league who have rightly stepped up a level.

Agree. Eccles does a good job of breaking up opposition play and ticking things over, you need a midfielder like that. But we’re playing a slow possession game and there rarely seems to be a pass on, so we play it simple and give them ever more time to settle deep. Allen, COH, maybe Saka, move...
