I Like him as a player and more so as a ball player but unfortunately in this league (and a lesser extent in Championship) we will come up against these tactics because that is why teams like Bradford, Port Vale etc are in these leagues because they are shite and and when they come up against a good footballing team like us they usually end up trying to just lump it up the pitch. This is why big lumps for center halves in this league do well but more mobile players like Jordan would be better suited to marking smaller quicker players like you get in some of the more footballing sides in the Championship (or maybe later in his career in the Premiership). More often than not he will eventually get found out in games like these and someone made the point that it was only 2 mistakes, problem is if a striker or midfielder make a couple it doesn't really matter, if a defender makes one it usually costs us a goal. Despite encouragement from Pressley etc, the problem is it may start to affect his confidence because he will become more aware of it and forget about the good things he does. I think that in January if we do dabble in the transfer market, a center half is a must if we want to mount a serious challenge for promotion. otherwise silly mistakes cost points which will ultimately affect our position in the play offs.

tactics or not its not gonna work if he cant kick a ball out the air or jump against big guys

if he doesnt improve(fast) were gonna need to look elsewhere, plently of athletic tall centrebacks out there too.

Clarke cost us all 3 .... fresh air kick, lost his man for 2nd, silly handball for pen ... but he hasn't had a bad season ... hes got Webster out of the shit in a few games and vice-versa ... just a bad game at the office ... only consolation is we've got a point out of it and lets hope we can beat Tranmere next game.... unbeaten in 7 league games now ... PUSB!

For the second Webster called for it and Clarke left it. I was there and heard it.

Why not look at the good things our players do. clarke gets it down a plays. Do you want your centre halves to just boot it? If so, go watch Bradford.

In the games I have seen Jordan Clarke has been head and shoulders our best defender, often bailing Andy Webster out of trouble. Yesterday we seemed to make the mistake of allowing Bradford to dictate who was marking the towering Hanson. We should have put Webster on him all the time as he had more chance of winning in the air than the much shorter Clarke. None of the defence played well yesterday, Webster definitely lucky not to be sent off (again). Lets not start crucifying a young player who is getting to grips with his new role after one poorish display.
God its nice to argue about football for a change - might have to go and lie down for a bit!!!!!

I'll defend every one of them not just Jordan Clarke. 31 points in 16 games, better football than we could have expected, more goals than any other team and all you can do is moan. What do you want. Players make mistakes - get over it.

get over it? get over what? you are saying because we are doing well we should never look at possible problems/improvements?

we can only do that when we lose?

Were not allowed to critic Jordan clarke on this forum

Improved a lot but he is not a centre back. Cost us 2 goals. Need a big man to partner Webster.

Gutted but it was a pen. If he wasn't so short he wjdbr have to leap like that

Not a cb!

These comments alone show up how little you know about football lol.

Christie's air kick against Brentford(?) cost us a goal and he wasn't vilified to anywhere near the extent that gets thrown Jordan Clarke's way when he makes an error.

I AM NOT SAYING JORDAN CLARKE CANNOT MAKE IT. i sincerely hope he does,as i said in my first post he has improved alot,if he can keep doing it then maybe he will make it for us. but the above shows that best defenders in world football are tall, and their partners will be tall also,so to act like someone saying they want 2 tall center backs is silly is quite frankly absurd.

you are an immature little boy and i am sorry i had to take you to school like this, better luck next time kid.

noone in this thread has said they want clarke dropped next game, just looking into possibilites if mistakes are not eradicated. and thats all i got to say on the matter.

Moan, moan, moan. Try supporting them and look at the good things occasionally. Watch it on tv because you couldnt be bothered to go i expect. Im saying players make mistakes - they make them every game - that's life. The team have been fantastic all season - worked their bollocks off every game. Played good football. Scored loads of goals. And that is good enough for me - you clearly want something else.

Not sure we can afford the best players in the world right now. Who do you want to replace Jordan then?

Your obviously not interested in Cov if you think our players should be of the standard of Puyol and Vidic. Your expectations are little on the high side or should i say height side !!

So if Ben Turner and Keogh were still in the squad you would not play one of them and would insist on playing Clarke as he is smaller?

JClarke is the best we have got at this time, one thing is for sure there is noway Christie could play there

He probably would want to resign Jay tabb and play him there

lol

fact is i liked his original post,i am footy mad and always open to new tactics and his point about clarkes speed was a good one,but hes acting like big/big pairings have to be slow, and thats crazy. im actually shocked.

cant wait to hear his answer to this one.

Lots of people moaned about Ben Turner making mistakes = Id have him back like a shot. Do you think we can sign him then

Would you play someone worse than Jordan Clarke because he is taller. No idea what point you are trying to make. Only tall people can play centre half? I was pissed off because all you can do is moan.

Baresi and Cannavarro were shit - must have been as they were 5ft 9 in

Who is your alternative to Clarke

Well Pressley certainly looks to the top teams and players for tactics and inspiration. He is also looking to change the culture of the club.

Something our squad could take on board is Puyols attitude to defending crosses. Not the biggest defender but always jumps like he believes he can win it. If he doesn't win it they sure don't get a clean header in.

David Speedie was another who could out jump opponents who were bigger. That's a side of the game that is about attitude not skill.

The greatest players have both.

i am the WE WILL NEVER LOSE AGAIN poster homie? you are way off on that one.

also read the posts ebfore you, i have said i have no issue with small centreback if they can get job done, clarke is making big mistakes hiowever and if it continues i want change, thats all.

change could be willis when back from injury, giving highly rated urquart a chance or buying in january. like i said, i never asked for clarke to be dropped for tranmere did i?

my point about height is a great small cb might be better than a good big cb but a good big cb is better than a good small cb, height matters in that position more often than not. amazing small cb are in the minority, clarke isnt amazing we can all agree so why the reluctance to look at possible changes?

Clarke is quick, has a good touch, decent in the air and a fair tackler, his weakness is at times he completly switches off at times, at centre back do that and you are struggling. His worst error was the Preston game when he didn't play to the whistle, i repeat hes the best we currently have

I wouldn't insist on anything its down to Mr Pressley. Its how he sets his team out. But i understand what he is trying to achieve in terms of tactics and pressing a high line, even if you don't. This style of play requires at least one of your centre backs to be as quick as the forwards he will be up against.
So if you think Turner or Keogh fit that bill then there wouldn't be a problem ?????

so you been arguing for no reason.

as i said change can be a new signing in january,a taller player with athleticism would be a fine replacement. so all this talk of 2 tall cb not working was just lies.

do you admit that now? or do you want me to list top cb pairings and we will see how many of them are under 6ft?

you tried to act like you are smarter than us all, that 2 big cb was dark age thinking. egg on your face mate.

I appreciate the point you are making. although out and out pace isn't always necessary...if you have a player who really reads the game. Paul McGrath and Trevor Peake were good examples of this.

But yes you do need a safety net and a good distributor. Jordan Clarke has great potential. But the squad would benefit from a footballing centre half who has reasonable presence in the air, cover for Clarke and Webster.

Fair enough. Willis played at the start of the season and i'm not convinced he's going to play it out from the back, and that is what Pressley wants. And Presley chose Clarke over him. Thought he played well at right back. Id be happy to see him have a go.

Urqhart is probably too young. No idea how quick he is but you have to have pace next to Webster.

I do get fed up with people moaning all the time - at the moment it the best its been for ages (on the pitch) Id just enjoy it.
